RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls—also known as “The Bullhole”—will hold its 15th Annual Catfish Fry on Saturday, October 27th from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Come to the big Margaret Woodson Picnic Shelter on the Rowan side of the park for the “the best catfish you’ve ever had!”. Hurricane Florence Update

“The Town of Mocksville and Davie County Emergency Management continues to monitor the path of Hurricane Florence. Based on information received from the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center, Davie County should anticipate: Early Thursday morning: rain and the potential arrival of high winds. Friday through Sunday: sustained periods of heavy rain with the potential of 7-10 inches total accumulation with tropical storm force winds. Davie County Schools + Hill RAP and A+ Training for Read to Achieve Camp – Helping Students Discover their Strengths and Improve Literacy Skills!

The teachers became the students as 28 Davie County educators explored using the arts to teach reading, a skill that is fundamental for success in school as well as in life. This A+ Schools training was in preparation for Davie’s summer Read to Achieve Camp which is designed to help third graders who have not met state requirements in reading to advance to the fourth grade. The camp also includes first and second graders who demonstrated the potential of reaching grade-level proficiency in reading with extra help in the summer. ApSeed and Mebane Foundation Join Forces to Provide 1,000 Mobile Touchscreen Tablet e-Readers FREE to Qualifying Davie County Preschool Children

The Mebane Foundation and ApSeed Early Childhood Education have joined forces to increase literacy scores among at-risk children in Davie County by providing a free e-Reader preloaded with applications designed to improve literacy and strengthen vocabulary. Thanks to a $105,000 grant from the Foundation, based in Mocksville, NC, 1,000 custom-built tablets, called Seedlings, will be distributed free of charge to children 0-4 whose families are enrolled in the WIC program through the Davie County Department of Public Health or Parents as Teachers through Smart Start of Davie County. After five years of successfully attracting manufacturing companies that created thousands of new jobs and millions of dollars in investments, Davie County had a problem — no more buildings and no more workers. “All of our working inventory had been absorbed into the system, and our unemployment rate had dropped to 3.7 percent which is almost fully employed,” said Terry Bralley, the president of the Davie County Economic Development Commission. RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls evokes memories of warm summer days fishing and swimming in the Bullhole and lazy walks along the beautifully wooded trails for residents across Davie County. In order to maintain the park’s beauty and to prepare it for another season of enjoyment, the RiverPark Board is sponsoring a spring clean-up this Saturday, March 17th, from 8 a.m. – noon. This Weekend – Friday Night Bed Races, Christmas Parade and Winterfest Coming to Mocksville!

Races Friday night, Parade Saturday Historic Downtown Mocksville will race into the Christmas season this Friday night, November 17th as 15 intrepid teams from local businesses, non-profits, WXII-12 News, and CW Channel 20.1 take part in the 6th annual “Twas the Night Before” Bed Races.
