From Davie to Denmark: Manufacturer Makes History with Groundbreaking Export from Cooleemee Mill

Replacing a church organ usually isn’t a momentous event unless you’re a scriptwriter trying to cobble together an episode of The Andy Griffith Show. Hospital Construction Fully Underway in Davie County ~ Construction Jobs Today, Health Care Jobs Tomorrow

The future home of Wake Forest Baptist Health – West Campus, the 88-acre site in the town of Bermuda Run on NC Highway 801 at Interstate 40, has been cleared with the exception of the natural wetlands, which are being protected. There may be 100-150 workers when construction activity is at its peak and Wake Forest Baptist anticipates that 200 permanent health care and related jobs will be created when phase one is open. Hospital Construction Ahead of Schedule for Wake Forest Baptist Health – West Campus in Davie County

The 88-acre site in the town of Bermuda Run on NC Highway 801 at Interstate 40 has been cleared with the exception of the natural wetlands, which are being protected. Grading of the site for the outpatient services building also has been completed and workers began pouring the foundation of the 101,000 square foot building, erecting concrete walls below grade. Breathing New Life into the Historic 600,000 square-foot Mill in Cooleemee

Hard work, big dreams and innovative thinking have begun to breathe new life into the 600,000 square-foot cotton mill which has been standing idle in Cooleemee since 1969.  The Cooleemee mill was once the most powerful economic engine in Davie County, North Carolina.  After opening in 1901, the mill employed almost 2,000 people at its peak until it was closed in 1969. Unemployment Figures Released

The unemployment rate increased in 95 of North Carolina’s 100 counties for January 2012 while Davie County’s unemployment rate decreased from 10.4% to 10.3%. Over the last twelve months, unemployment rates increased in 58 counties, decreased in 35 counties and remained the same in seven counties.  Davie County’s unemployment rate decreased. The state-wide unadjusted unemployment rate was 10.5 percent in January 2012. $80 Million New Hospital Construction Project Begins ~ Wake Forest Baptist Health – West Campus

The sights and sounds of construction are beginning in Davie County, North Carolina as site preparation begins for phase one of the $80 million Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center complex on Highway 801 at Interstate 40.  Phase one will consist of an outpatient center and medical office building.  Approximately 200 jobs will be created by phase one, excluding construction jobs. Davie County Economic Development Commission Receives Land Donation from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

The Davie County Economic Development Commission (EDC) today announced that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company has donated approximately 360 acres of land in Davie County to the EDC. The land has a property tax value of $3.5 million. “R.J. Reynolds’ gift of this prime industrial site greatly enhances the Commission’s economic development opportunities and consequent job creation,” said Terry Bralley, president of the EDC. “This gift is especially important, given the present economic climate.
