Got Books? Davie County Library Book Sale This Week!

Great bargains on new and gently used books can be found at the Friends of Davie County Public Library book sale this weekend.  Held every spring and fall, the book sales are the volunteer organization’s main fundraiser. The book sale is located at Davie County Public Library, 371 N. Main St. Mocksville. Book sale organizers are happy to report no price increase for books in 2013. Organ Recital & Shop Presentation at Historic Textile Mill in Cooleemee

On Saturday, April 16th at the mill in Cooleemee, Dr. Timothy Olsen, Kenan Professor of Organ, U of NC School of the Arts will performing on the new LEWTAK handmade pipe organ destined for the Osterhab Kirke (Church) in Denmark.  The public is invited. The organ was designed, engineered and built by hand over the last 18 months, with construction over the last 12 months by Tom Lewtak occurring inside the historic textile mill in Cooleemee.  The recital is a free community event. The 25th annual Shamrock Run, Walk and Tots Trot, sponsored by St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Davie County Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013.  A portion of the proceeds from this annual event will be donated to the Davie Pregnancy Center. If you could help create a world with less cancer, would you?  Here’s your chance!  The American Cancer Society is launching a historic study, the Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3) with up to half-a-million participants.  The American Cancer Society’s CPS-1 helped to identify the cancer risks of smoklng durng the 1950’s.  The American Cancer Society’s CPS-2 helped to identify the link between obesity and cancer in the 1980’s.  CPS-3 is aimed at discovering how lifestyle, behavioral and genetic factors  that cause or prevent cancer.
