Popsicle 5K ~ $4,000 Rasied for Davie County Youth Led Projects!

As the sun rose in Davie County on Saturday, February 2nd, the air was a cold 21 degrees; it looked like the Popsicle 5K would live up to its name. Mocksville Elementary School, usually quiet on the weekends, was bustling as SURF Board members began preparing for the runners. The Popsicle 5K is a fundraiser for the SURF (Students Understanding Real Futures) Board and all proceeds from the run go toward their grant making efforts. Don’t miss the second annual Davie County “Popsicle 5K” run this Saturday, February 2nd.  Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome! Mocksville Davie Parks and Recreation ~ Staying in Shape Made Easy… and Fun!

The Mocksville/Davie Parks & Recreation Department provides a comprehensive recreation program for people of all ages in Davie County with athletic programs for children and adults, a variety of classes, camps, community events, and activities for seniors. Programs & Special Events The Davie Park & Rec Department coordinates the Davie County Senior Games, Special Olympics and the Davie Youth Council.  Special events are the July 4th Celebration at Rich Park. Casting Call ~ Auditions this Saturday!

The Davie County Arts Council and the Brock Players will host auditions for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” at 10:00 AM this Saturday, January 5th, 2013. This Tony Award winning musical comedy centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups. Help us “Flag” the Tree of Honor

A “Tribute Tree” to honor and/or remember those who serve or have served to protect our freedom is located beside the Mocksville Police Department and will be on display throughout the 2012  holiday season. The Goal is to fill the Entire Tree with Flags! For each $1 contribution, a United States flag will be placed on the tree to represent a designated service person.  The contributions will be presented to the Davie County Veteran’s Administration for local veteran services. The 2012 Christmas holiday season is in full swing in Davie County with lots of events and things to do for the entire family.
