25th Annual Shamrock Run, Walk and Tots Trot to Benefit Davie Pregnancy Center

The 25th annual Shamrock Run, Walk and Tots Trot, sponsored by St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Davie County Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013.  A portion of the proceeds from this annual event will be donated to the Davie Pregnancy Center. Help Create a World with More Birthdays

If you could help create a world with less cancer, would you?  Here’s your chance!  The American Cancer Society is launching a historic study, the Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3) with up to half-a-million participants.  The American Cancer Society’s CPS-1 helped to identify the cancer risks of smoklng durng the 1950’s.  The American Cancer Society’s CPS-2 helped to identify the link between obesity and cancer in the 1980’s.  CPS-3 is aimed at discovering how lifestyle, behavioral and genetic factors  that cause or prevent cancer. Popsicle 5K ~ $4,000 Rasied for Davie County Youth Led Projects!

As the sun rose in Davie County on Saturday, February 2nd, the air was a cold 21 degrees; it looked like the Popsicle 5K would live up to its name. Mocksville Elementary School, usually quiet on the weekends, was bustling as SURF Board members began preparing for the runners. The Popsicle 5K is a fundraiser for the SURF (Students Understanding Real Futures) Board and all proceeds from the run go toward their grant making efforts. Advanced Manufacturing Lab Coming to Davie County High School

An advanced manufacturing lab is being built on the campus of Davie County High School.  The lab, opening in the fall of 2013 will contain three CNC Vertical Mills (3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis), three CNC Turning Centers, four manual knee mills, four manual engine lathes and two surface grinders.  In addition, the welding program at the Davie Campus of DCCC is being expanded. Don’t miss the second annual Davie County “Popsicle 5K” run this Saturday, February 2nd.  Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome!
