Lee Jeans Consolidation Means More Jobs for Davie County

VF Corporation, a global apparel leader headquartered in Greensboro, NC selected Davie County as the single point of distribution for Lee Jeans to all US markets, increasing the volume of Lee Jeans shipped out of the Mocksville facility.   This brought an additional 50 jobs to Davie County with the possibility of more jobs by year end.  Currently there are 430 associates at the Lee Jeans distribution facility in Mocksville.  As a result of this consolidation, every pair of Lee Jeans, from Maine to Florida, New York to Alaska is now shipped out of Mocksville to retailers throughout North America. “Davie […]

19th Annual Textile Heritage Festival ~ Saturday, September 25th, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Admission is Free.  Come celebrate Cooleemee’s rich history  at the 19th Annual Textile Heritage Festival at the Zachary House, 131 Church Street, Cooleemee. 2nd Annual Farmington Fall Expo! Eat, Listen, Learn and Shop Until You Drop!

186 Golfers Compete in Davie County Chamber of Commerce Pro Scramble Golf Tournament at Oak Valley Golf Club!

An Event to Remember! It was truly a “Chamber of Commerce Day” with blue skies, plenty of sunshine and a cool breeze blowing gently across the fairways.  The Oak Valley course, designed by Arnold Palmer, was in great condition with picturesque waterways, gently rolling fairways, manicured greens and classic scenery abounding around every turn. 31 PGA Professional Golfers Assist 186 golfers, including 31 PGA pros, competed in the tournament.   New to the tournament this year were a 50/50 cash raffle, a putt-off challenge and the $2,500 hole-in-one contest sponsored by Southern Community Bank and Trust.  Top sponsors for the […]

Congratulations! ~ North Carolina Wins $400 Million “Race to the Top” Grant for Education

North Carolina is in the winner’s circle for the US Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” grant competition. In the video below, US Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, announced the winners. For over 50 years, Washington has relied on formulas to distribute federal education dollars to the states based on school district size and other data. The Race to the Top competition may signal a transformation from awards based on formulas to awards based on what works best.
