$35 Million Avgol Investment Creates 40 New Manufacturing Jobs in Davie County
A textile manufacturing revolution is underway
Avgol Nonwovens celebrated the opening of a 4th production line at their flagship manufacturing plant in Mocksville last week. This $35 million investment by Avgol has created more than 40 new manufacturing jobs in Davie County bringing the total workforce at the plant to 180 employees.
Avgol manufactures approximately 10% of the global non-woven fabric for baby and adult diapers at plants located in China, Israel, Russia and the United States. With the new production line, the Mocksville plant will produce 60,000 metric tons of non-woven material annually which represents approximately 50% of Avgol’s global capacity.

Avgol’s major customers include Proctor and Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Unicharm, SCA, AHP and Covidien.
Another win for Davie County in the global competition for jobs!
Headquartered in Israel, Avgol is a prime example of the international diversity of employers in Davie County. Shlomo Liran, Avgol CEO travelled from Israel to Mocksville to celebrate the opening of Avgol’s newest production line along with a host of other visitors from Israel, Singapore, China, France and Germany. A delegation of local Davie County leaders was also on hand. The celebration included a tour of Avgol’s flagship plant in Mocksville and a toast to celebrate the opening of the new line.
Davie County workforce shares the spotlight
Mr. Liran thanked Avgol’s customers and their customers’ employees for placing their trust in Avgol. This trust has led to double digit growth for Avgol in an economic climate which has challenged many other companies. He also thanked Avgol’s Mocksville employees for their hard work in consistently producing the highest quality product which has made this expansion possible. He thanked the town of Mocksville, Davie County and the state of North Carolina for assisting Avgol in their pursuit of growth and job creation.
Mr. Liran also expressed appreciation to Energy United for providing Avgol with “high quality energy that never stops, even for a split second.” During his remarks Mr. Liran noted that the addition of a 5th line in the future at the Mocksville plant would make Avgol’s Mocksville plant the world’s largest single producer of non-woven fabric.
Ronnie Batchler, COO of the Mocksville plant also thanked Avgol’s customers, Avgol’s Mocksville employees. Mr. Batchler also thanked Avgol’s shareholders and board of directors for continuing to invest in the expansion of the Mocksville plant.
Terry Bralley, president of the Davie County Economic Development Commission thanked Avgol for continuing to grow their investment, and for creating new jobs in Davie County since 2001. Mr. Bralley also thanked the local community for supporting this type of growth in Davie County and thanked Avgol for being part of a great partnership here. “Avgol continues to be a great corporate partner in Mocksville and they continue to provide high quality manufacturing jobs in Davie County. We will continue to support Avgol’s growth plans and look forward to their continued success.”
Transportation and Logistics: Rail in Davie County Helps Fuel Economic Growth
The new Avgol production line in Mocksville represents the 3rd expansion for Avgol in Davie County since they purchased the plant from Unifi in 2001. At that time the plant consisted of a single production line. The installation of a rail spur in 2005 for the delivery of inbound raw materials for manufacturing has helped make NC and Davie County a strategic location for Avgol.

The manufacturing of engineered fabrics is at the leading edge of a textile revival in North Carolina and advanced technology is at the heart of non-woven manufacturing. Avgol has utilized training and support services provided by North Carolina State University’s Non-Woven Institute (NWI).
The Nonwovens Institute (NWI), based at the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, is the world’s first accredited academic program for the interdisciplinary field of engineered fabrics. The NWI is an innovative global partnership between industry, government and academe. Operating on an “Open Innovation” platform, the Nonwovens Institute engages experts from industry and higher education in building next-generation nonwoven applications while also providing training and guidance to the field’s future leaders.
