This free community event is sponsored by Smart Start of Davie County in conjunction with Davie Recreation and Parks and Davie Family YMCA, and will occur rain or shine. The goal of KidsFest is to provide a fun day of learning for children and to raise awareness for the services and activities available to families of young children in Davie County.
A Host of Activities for Children and Families
Kids of all ages will enjoy the excitement of an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, bunnies, a magic show and balloonist, Zumba, face painting, and much more.
The Davie YMCA is providing a “smoothie bike”. Riding the bike powers the attached blender to make smoothies! The YMCA will offer a youth training session at 10 a.m. on the main stage and the Senior Center Boogie Brigade Dancers will showcase their fancy footwork at 10:20 a.m. in the picnic area. A combined all-county elementary school choral performance will be presented at 11 a.m.
New This Year
New this year to KidsFest is BlockFest, a research-based exhibit that helps raise awareness of early math and science learning by offering hands-on block play experiences to families with young children. Parents, preschool teachers and the community will become more knowledgeable about the importance of early math and science learning as it affects both school readiness and later math success. BlockFest is for children birth-5 years old and will be held in the Brock Gym from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Space for BlockFest is limited.
Home Safety classes will be offered at 10 a.m. and at 1:15 p.m. Free home safety kits will be given to the first 15 families registered for each session.
This year’s featured parent/child session is called Kidpower. Hosted by Davie Domestic Violence in conjunction with Kidpower North Carolina, Kidpower teaches personal safety and boundary-setting skills. There will be a session at 10:30 a.m. for ages 2-5 years and a session at 12:30 p.m. for ages 5+.
There will be many representatives from community non-profit and service agencies hosting crafts, games and providing information to parents on family resources. Each vendor inside the gym will feature an interactive activity for children. Smart Start will be giving away free T-shirts to young children attending the event, while supplies last.
“Smart Start celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and we want to thank the community for their support of our organization offering early education programs and family support since 1997,” said Gena Taylor, Executive Director of Smart Start of Davie County.
“Our annual KidsFest shows families how much fun it can be to learn and do activities together. We want to encourage parents to visit with the variety of local agencies to learn more about the programs and services that are available to them in Davie County.”
All events at KidsFest are free, but registration is required. There were over 1,000 people in attendance at this event last year. Save time by visiting the Smart Start website to pre-register at www.daviesmartstart.org. After completing the online registration, stop by one of the three registration tables the day of the event to get your welcome goodie bag! Smart Start will also be raffling a Radio Flyer tricycle.
