The Town of Bermuda Run will be alive with the timeless tunes of George Gershwin Saturday night, June 25th, from 7 pm-10 pm at the gazebo near Town Hall.
Co-sponsored by the Town of Bermuda Run and the Davie County Arts Council, this free event is the second and final concert in the Sounds on the Square concert series.
The evening will feature Gershwin classics that will include not only show tunes but also his spirited patriotic songs. Enjoy timeless favorites such as “Rhapsody in Blue,” “An American in Paris,” and “I’ve Got Rhythm.” This wonderful music will be performed by Chamber Jazz Winston (formerly known as Carolina Chamber Symphony).
Martha Bassett to Sing Gershwin Tunes!
As an added treat, Martha Bassett will join the group to sing, as only she can, three or four Gershwin tunes. Regularly seen on stages at Merlefest, the Eastern Music Festival, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival and concert venues throughout North Carolina and Virginia, Bassett has opened for Lyle Lovett, Tony Bennett, the Avett Brothers, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Jim Lauderdale, and Chuck Prophet.
A singer, musician, and songwriter, Bassett trained as a classical singer at the University of Kentucky and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Originally from West Virginia, she is well-known in the Triad’s music community for her crystalline tone and wide-ranging repertoire which includes jazz, country, bluegrass, folk, rock, swing, Americana and torch songs.
There is plenty of space, so bring your lawn chairs, a cool drink and snacks, and enjoy this free concert. Arrangements are being made for area food trucks.
The concert’s rain date is Sunday, June 26th.
