Register Now! — “Twas the Night Before” Bed Race and the Hometown Christmas Parade – November 17-18th

Bed Race 2016 WXIIThe holiday season is fast approaching and it’s time to get in the spirit by registering for the “Twas the Night Before” Bed Race and the Hometown Christmas Parade. The bed race will be held Friday night, November 17th at 6 pm followed by the parade on Saturday, November 18th at noon.

Join the whacky, whimsical, and outrageous teams race bed sleds down Main Street in a competitive yet FUN event! Industry, corporations, churches, nonprofits, and individuals are invited to participate. Television station WXII is joining the competition for the fourth year!

Presented by the Mocksville Tourism Authority, the annual “Twas The Night Before Bed Race” has become one of Mocksville’s most popular events with dozens of teams competing for the cheers of the fans and $600 in cash prizes.

$600 in Cash Prizes at Stake!
At stake are prizes for speed and creativity. The fastest team will take home a cool $200 in cash, while the runner-up will collect $125 and the third-place finisher will roll away with $75. The fastest senior team will receive $100 and the  Most Outrageous team will pick up $50. The Total Package prize of $50 will go to the team with the best overall package… i.e. best overall appearance and combination of bed decoration, message and costumes.

The cost is only $30 per team AND you may enter the Mocksville Christmas Parade the next day for FREE.

The Hometown Christmas Parade is a beloved tradition and has been delighting young and old for decades. This year’s theme is “It’s a 50’s Christmas.”

What happened in the 50’s? — “I Love Lucy” premiered on television…The Diner’s Club began issuing the first credit cards…Swanson introduced Frozen TV Dinners…”The Mickey Mouse Club” premiered & the Disneyland theme park in California opened…Ray Kroc started the McDonald’s chain….Elvis Presley had his first hit song, “Heartbreak Hotel”…NASA was created…Wham-O invented the Hula Hoop….Alaska & Hawaii were admitted as the 49th and 50th states to the US…The original series of The Twilight Zone aired as well as Bonanza, The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke & The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin premiered.

Parade categories include: businesses, churches, civic/non-profit groups, schools, single/individual entries, and horses with entry fees ranging from $10 to $25. Download the 2017 Mocksville Christmas Parade Entry Form.

First prize will win $75, second place with receive $50, and the third place entry will take home $25.

Consideration will be given for line-up order on a first-come, first-served basis.  

You can sign up for the Christmas parade by dropping off or mailing your entry form (along with a check payable to Davie County Chamber of Commerce) to 135 South Salisbury St., Mocksville, 27028.
