Several New Retail Openings Coming to Mocksville – Village Inn Pizza, Label Shopper, and Victory Arms
By Jeanna Baxter White
“We have experienced tremendous success with industrial growth,” said Terry Bralley, President of the Davie County Economic Development Commission. “The Davie County economy, in general, has rebounded, and we are pleased the rising tide has brought additional retail shops and small businesses to Davie County.”
Clothing retailer, Label Shopper, will be opening a store in the Willow Oaks Shopping Center next to Dynasty Chinese Restaurant. Based in Latham, New York, the chain has 85 stores across the Midwest and Northeast and as far south as South Carolina. According to the company’s website, the store offers brand name clothes at discounted prices.
“After our analysis of the city of Mocksville, we felt the community would recognize the great value and quality of the branded merchandise we offer at amazingly low prices,” said Kathy Boedecker, director of stores. “ It’s like a treasure hunt with new arrivals daily. You never know what famous labels you may find.”
Boedecker said the store will celebrate its grand opening with an end of summer warehouse sale with prices at $3, $4, $5, and up. Store hours are Monday -Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, and Sunday 12pm-6pm.
The store’s phone number is 336-936-0179.
Although the store is currently fully staffed, Boedecker said that job seekers can apply online for future openings at www.labelshopper.com
Victory Arms and Munitions, LLC, a hybrid gun and military surplus store, will open in mid-September in the former Ben Franklin store in the Willow Oaks Shopping Center.
According to the website, Victory Arms and Munitions LLC is the culmination of two collectors who grew frustrated by the lack of customer service in the collectible firearms industry. They started online, then added selling at gun shows, and now feel it is time to open a brick and mortar store.
Co-owner, Andrew Austin, a Davie County native, said Mocksville was perfect because of its location off I-40 at its close proximity to Lexington, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, and the surrounding areas. “We look forward to opening our doors in Mocksville and showing the community what we are all about; top-notch customer service.”
Village Inn Pizza will open this fall in the Eastgate Shopping Center in the former location of Marco’s Italian Family Restaurant. Mocksville will be the 13th location for the Statesville-based restaurant.
The company website boasts that “In over 50 years, Village Inn has never deviated from the original recipes. Our dough and sauce are made in-house daily and we believe this is the foundation of any good pizza. It’s not the easiest way or the big-chain approach, but it’s the best!” Additional popular menu items include spaghetti, sandwiches, home-made soup selections, chicken wings and our 40 plus item salad bar. Village Inn also offers an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet featuring a wide selection of fresh hot pizza, salad, soup, pasta with home-made meat sauce and dessert pizza.
Growing Retail Options in Mocksville
Bralley is grateful to David Tsui, the owner of both shopping centers, for helping to revitalize Mocksville’s retail base.
“What a tremendous opportunity to continue growing the retail options for our community!” said Bralley “David Tsui has been a breath of fresh air on the retail side. His investments have helped attract the attention of new retailers to the opportunities in Davie County. Being able to attract these outside investors to our community is a strong statement about us. We have always believed in our economy and are now we are convincing others to invest in our future.”
When Tsui purchased the Squire Boone Plaza, now Eastgate Shopping Center, in 2016 he promised to give it a new lease on life by bringing new retail stores to Davie County. He succeeded. Over the past three years, Tractor Supply, Furniture Mattress Warehouse, Fastenal, Mocksville-Cooleemee ABC Store, Mocksville Internet Business Center, and Peace of Mind Consignment have joined Davie Jewelers, Glamourous Nails, Peebles, and Unique Hair Care in the main shopping Center.
Tsui purchased the Willow Oaks Shopping Center in March and has quickly filled its open spaces. Current tenants, Aaron’s, Allied Financial, Badcock Home Furniture & More, Dynasty Chinese Restaurant, H&R Block, Todays Nails, and the US Postal Office should benefit from the additional traffic.
“We saw the opportunity to continue the success we’ve experienced with Eastgate,” said Tsui, “There is a synergy to owning both shopping centers. It has allowed us to lower our maintenance costs which has allowed us to offer even better lease rates. This is a great community with a great location. We are excited to be here, and look forward to continuing to invest in this community in the future.”
