2 Events in Mocksville on Saturday: Touch-A-Truck and Summer Beach Days Concert

Downtown Mocksville offers twelve hours of excitement with two great events this Saturday, September, 21st, sure to appeal to family members of all ages — Touch-A-Truck and Summer Beach Days.

Touch-A-Truck in Downtown Mocksville from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The fun begins from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. with Touch-A-Truck. Have a hands-on, up-close experience with all types of vehicles in downtown Mocksville and support COGNITION! Touch-A-Truck will provide a unique opportunity for children of all ages to explore many types of vehicles – public service, emergency, utility, transportation, recreational, farm, construction, delivery, and “cool” trucks – all in one place! There will be a sensory-friendly hour from 10-11a.m. (no loud noises, sirens, or flashing lights).

Come explore the cool vehicles, enjoy yummy food, a performance by His & Hers, a preview of COGNITION, and MUCH MORE!

This hands-on event will serve to financially support and endorse the opening of COGNITION of Davie County, Inc. in early 2020. COGNITION is an interactive learning center and makerspace coming to downtown Mocksville! The mission of COGNITION is to create an interactive space for children, families, and the community to acquire knowledge through adventurous play, investigative learning, and creative growth.

Family passes include admission for the whole family for just $20. Individual tickets will be $5 each. The most a family will pay to attend is $20 so that everyone can attend Touch-A-Truck and support COGNITION. Additional contributions to support COGNITION’s capital campaign are welcome!

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. For more information, email info@cognitiondavie.org.

Summer Beach Days Concert at Junker’s Mill from 6-10 p.m.
After Touch-A-Truck, explore the unique shops and stop in for a coffee at The Factory Coffeehouse or some ice cream at Scoops. A delicious dinner at one of our local restaurants will get you ready for a hand-clapping, toe-tapping good time during Summer Beach Days. This free two-band concert, sponsored by the Town of Mocksville, will be held from 6-10 p.m. at Junkers Mill Outdoor Theater, 107 S. Salisbury St. The original concert, scheduled for June 22nd, was canceled because of weather.

Put on your Boogie Shoes and prepare to Shake Your Booty with The Night Move Band at 6 p.m.
It’s all about entertaining and exciting the crowd with The Night Move Band. With a cast of musicians that can each boast over 25 years of experience, this band is just as home on stage in front of a large festival crowd as they are playing for a private party. With a diverse song list including artists such as KC & The Sunshine Band, The Temptations, Delbert McClinton, The Tams, The Four Tops, Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Rick James, and many more, this band comes ready to please any audience.

You’ll be filled with Respect when Phatt City brings on the beach, R&B, and dance music as they close out the night from 8 – 10 p.m.

Phatt City is a nine-piece band that was formed in the early ’70s from a group of high school band directors. This is the fourth version of the group although there are three remaining charter members – Dan Vestal, Kim Heffner, and JP VanHoy. Phatt City plays the best of Beach, R&B, and dance music. Why the name Phatt City, you ask? The funny spelling came from that era, and the band has often been described as having a big “fat” sound. Now you know!

Food, alcohol, and beverages will be available for purchase. No coolers, please.

Bring your own chair and join us for a rollicking good night of exciting live music and dancing in the dark!
