Schools Closed For Students & Staff – Friday, February 14, 2014

Davie County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, February 14, 2014.  There will be no school on Saturday.  We hope to be back on a regular schedule on Monday, February 17.  Make-up days will be announced at a later date.  In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of the snow storm below.  Full resolution copies of the images below are available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/daviecounty/sets/72157640951597474/show/

Winter Storm ~ A State of Emergency Declared for Davie County

A state of emergency has been declared for Davie County.  Residents are asked to please curtail non-essential travel to keep local roads and highways clear for emergency vehicles. There will be a shelter open at the Brock gym today staring at 4pm today.  The red cross will be operating the shelter.  If there are clients with special needs please bring a care giver with you. If you have questions about a shelter you can contact Jerry Myers with Emergency Management at 753-6163.

Congratulations! Mocksville Police Win NC “Blue Light Special” Award

A Mocksville Police Car was selected one of the best looking and best equipped law enforcement vehicles in the State of North Carolina as a 3rd place winner of the 2014 “Blue Light Special Competition” during the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) Symposium held in Concord, North Carolina during the second week in January. Gildan Activewear ~ 290 New Jobs ~ An Investment Worth Making

An editorial in the Winston Salem Journal commented positively this week on the investment in grants and incentives that helped bring the new Gildan Activewear manufacturing facility to Mocksville.  Gildan Activewear is investing $112 million to bring 290 jobs to Mocksville.  Groundbreaking will occur soon and production is scheduled to begin in 2015. Davie County Jobless Rate Most Improved in Region

According to figures released this week by the NC Department of Commerce, the unemployment rate in Davie County fell to 6.3% for the month of November, 2013, a full percentage point drop from the October rate of 7.3%. According to a report in the Winston Salem Journal, this full percentage point drop in unemployment in Davie County was the largest one month improvement of the 14 counties that make up the Northwest North Carolina region.
