Davie County Workforce Development Partnership – Teacher Externships Focus on Local Career Opportunities

You can’t teach what you don’t know. Six Davie County educators recently became the students as they toured area companies to gain a deeper understanding of the skills needed by employers that will help their students find meaningful careers and local industry to grow. Classic Car Cruise-In Tonight in Downtown Mocksville!

Visit the beautiful and historic square in downtown Mocksville tonight beginning at 5:30 p.m. for a classic car “Cruise-In” presented by the Piedmont Classic C.A.R.S. Club. A Symphony of Sights and Sounds For three hours on a warm, Monday evening, the town square is transformed into a colorful, busy symphony of sight and sounds. Mocksville House of Raeford Plant Sold – New Owners will Expand Operations, Add Jobs!

House of Raeford Farms has announced the sale of its Mocksville, NC-based chicken processing plant to long-time customer Brakebush Brothers, Inc. of Westfield, WI. The central portion of the manufacturing facility off Eaton Road was heavily damaged by a fire last December. Brakebush plans to restore the 72,000 square foot plant with state-of-the-art processing equipment. The updated facility will accommodate three production lines when fully utilized, which is projected for spring 2019. Davie County Schools + Hill RAP and A+ Training for Read to Achieve Camp – Helping Students Discover their Strengths and Improve Literacy Skills!

The teachers became the students as 28 Davie County educators explored using the arts to teach reading, a skill that is fundamental for success in school as well as in life. This A+ Schools training was in preparation for Davie’s summer Read to Achieve Camp which is designed to help third graders who have not met state requirements in reading to advance to the fourth grade. The camp also includes first and second graders who demonstrated the potential of reaching grade-level proficiency in reading with extra help in the summer. Walmart Offers Customers Added Convenience with New Free Grocery Pickup Service

Walmart in Mocksville wants to change the way you buy groceries by offering free online grocery pickup with a minimum $30 purchase. “Customers today are looking for more convenience, choice, and savings, so we’re creating an experience that offers customers the convenience of shopping online and the ease of quickly picking up groceries without having to leave their cars,” said Garry Steele, assistant manager of e-commerce. ApSeed and Mebane Foundation Join Forces to Provide 1,000 Mobile Touchscreen Tablet e-Readers FREE to Qualifying Davie County Preschool Children

The Mebane Foundation and ApSeed Early Childhood Education have joined forces to increase literacy scores among at-risk children in Davie County by providing a free e-Reader preloaded with applications designed to improve literacy and strengthen vocabulary. Thanks to a $105,000 grant from the Foundation, based in Mocksville, NC, 1,000 custom-built tablets, called Seedlings, will be distributed free of charge to children 0-4 whose families are enrolled in the WIC program through the Davie County Department of Public Health or Parents as Teachers through Smart Start of Davie County.
