A Great Family Adventure
There are few things in life sweeter than honey from beehives in your own backyard.  If you ever wondered what it would be like to be a beekeeper, the Beekeeper Short Course is a wonderful way to learn more about this exciting and important field.  The instructor for the course is Gregory Fariss, EAS Master Beekeeper, the owner of Peaceful Valley Honey, and former Apiary Inspector (bee inspector) for the Maryland Department of Agriculture.  Mr. Fariss, a passionate speaker and an experienced instructor, is always informative and frequently entertaining.  This is a great course for families to attend together.

Course Topics
Course topics include: suitable apiary locations, bee communication, bee pests and diseases, beekeeping equipment, honey extraction, beeswax products such as candles and cosmetics, apitherapy, plant pollination, and many other topics.

When and Where
The course will be held at the Davie County Public Library on North Main Street in Mocksville.  The course begins Friday evening, January 7th from 7-9 PM and continues each Friday evening through February 4th (five weeks).

Apiary Day
The course concludes with an apiary day when participants visit the apiary at Peaceful Valley Honey to open hives, observe honey bee behavior first hand, practice queen bee identification and many other practical skills.

Free Hives
The apiary day ends with a drawing for free bee hives for two new beekeepers.  To qualify for the free hives, students must attend all five classes and the apiary day.
