Update from Davie County Government DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. – Davie County Recreation and Parks is offering a safe and family-fun way for you to celebrate Halloween this year. From October 24th-29th, there are time slots for you to carve or paint a pumpkin at the Davie County Community Park. Then on October 31st you can come back to see your pumpkins lighting the way on Jack-O-Lantern Trail. Davie County and the Town of Mocksville are partnering on a long-term water strategy to secure the county’s water supply and to allow for economic growth over the next 20 or more years in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Davie County owns and operates the 2.6 mgd (million gallons per day) Cooleemee Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in southern Davie County with an intake on the South Yadkin River. The Town of Mocksville owns the 3.0 mgd Hugh A. Lagle WTP with an intake on Hunting Creek. Both water treatment facilities are at the end of their useful life. […]

Who doesn’t love a parade? On Monday, August 24th, beginning at 6 p.m., a caravan of fire trucks, police cars, emergency services vehicles, along with a few ATVs or golf carts will proceed up and down every street in Cooleemee encouraging residents to take part in the 2020 Census. The 2020 Census is each resident’s opportunity to make a decade of a difference in the community. Sometimes dreams do come true, just ask Sonya Allen. Allen and her two teenage children, Smitty and Elaine, experienced homelessness after a water main break forced them to permanently move out of the home they owned. The family spent time in Family Promise of Davie County’s shelter program before moving into a transitional home owned by Hope Homes, another local nonprofit. If you haven’t completed the census, expect a knock on your door. This week, the U.S. Census Bureau began following up with households nationwide that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census. Based on the current national self-response rate of 63.3%, the Census Bureau estimates it will need to visit about 56 million addresses to collect responses in person. As of August 9th, Davie County ranked fourth in the state, with 67.7% of the county’s residents having responded. Big Oak Ranch/Gold Leaf Training celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday, August 11th, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Davie County Chamber of Commerce and a Business After Hours event hosted by Nathan Broyles of Nationwide Insurance. Despite the heat, family, friends, and chamber members turned out to congratulate new owner, Amanda Lowe, and to tour the facility and stroke the horses. A unique new place to stay in Mocksville celebrated its grand opening on June 22nd with an equally unique virtual ribbon-cutting hosted by the Davie County Chamber of Commerce.
