Got Books? Davie County Library Book Sale This Week!

Great bargains on new and gently used books can be found at the Friends of Davie County Public Library book sale this weekend.  Held every spring and fall, the book sales are the volunteer organization’s main fundraiser. The book sale is located at Davie County Public Library, 371 N. Main St. Mocksville. Book sale organizers are happy to report no price increase for books in 2012. 21st Century Learning ~ Davie County Schools Robotics Competition

Davie County STEM Education in collaboration with Wake Forest Baptist Health ~ On Friday, April 27th, from 4-7 pm, teams from all 6 Davie County elementary schools and all 3 middle schools will converge at Davie County High School for an afternoon and evening of friendly but fierce competition! Help Honor Davie County’s Vietnam Veterans This Saturday

Mayor F.W. Slate has proclaimed March 31, 2012 as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”.  The Town of Mocksville invites the County of Davie, Town of Bermuda Run and Town of Cooleemee to join together  to pay tribute to the men and women who served our country during the Vietnam War. Unemployment Figures Released

The unemployment rate increased in 95 of North Carolina’s 100 counties for January 2012 while Davie County’s unemployment rate decreased from 10.4% to 10.3%. Over the last twelve months, unemployment rates increased in 58 counties, decreased in 35 counties and remained the same in seven counties.  Davie County’s unemployment rate decreased. The state-wide unadjusted unemployment rate was 10.5 percent in January 2012. Original “Scout” to Appear at the Brock Center on Friday, March 23, 2012

The Davie County Arts Council’s Brock Players will have three more performances of their production of To Kill a Mockingbird on March 23rd, 24th and 25th.  They will host a very special guest appearance at the Friday, March 23rd performance.  Mary Badham, who played “Scout” in the film version with Gregory Peck, will be at that performance. Opening This Weekend ~ The Davie County Arts Council Presents “To Kill a Mockingbird”

“To Kill a Mockingbird” opens Friday evening, March 16th and runs for two weeks at the Brock Performing Center in historic downtown Mocksville.  The play has been adapted from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name written by Harper Lee and published in 1960. The play runs over the next 2 weekends with performances scheduled each Friday, Saturday at 7 PM and each Sunday at 3 PM.
