Davie County will host fireworks, farmer’s markets, musical entertainment, parades, classic cars, antique tractors and more as we head into the traditional 4th of July summer holiday season.
Fireworks in the Park – Free Event
As traditional as apple pie and ice cream, the annual 4th of July fireworks display will explode over Rich Park in Mocksville on Wednesday, July 4th. Musical entertainment will begin at 7:30 PM with fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:30. This will be a festive evening with funnel cakes, ice cream, hots dogs, snow cones, Italian ice, and more. There will even be an opportunity to work off those extra funnel cake pounds with audience participation in a Zumba demonstration by Adi.
Parking at rich Park, the Davie Family Y and Mocksville Elementary School will be $5 per car but there are plenty of free parking opportunities behind the Brock Center on North Main Street and other nearby lots.
Lawn Mower Parade – Free Event!
The 14th annual Lawn Mower Parade will cut a path through the town of Cooleemee beginning at the elementary school at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 4th and ending at the Zachary House.
Lawn mower floats will parade up and down the quiet streets of Cooleemee beginning at 10:00 AM starting at the Cooleemee Elementary School and winding through town until they reach the Zachary House where you will enjoy FREE ice cream, watermelon, snow cones, and a slip-and-slide for the kids.
This patriotic event sponsored by the town of Cooleemee grows each year as entrants decorate a wide variety of lawn mowers, old and new. Come follow along the parade route and enjoy a stroll down the historic and picturesque streets lined with great old shade tree and historic mill homes.
Antique Tractor and Engine Show – Free Event!
On Friday and Saturday, July 6th and 7th, the Piedmont Antique Power Association (PAPA) will present the 13th annual Antique Tractor and Engine Show at the Masonic Picnic Grounds behind Brock Center in historic downtown Mocksville. New for the 2012 event is the Got To Be NC Shopping Cart from the NC Department of Agriculture. 15 feet long, 13 feet tall and powered by a Chevrolet V8 racing engine.
Admission is free and there will be something for everyone on both days. Food, beverages, ice cream, great food, music, contests, events, parade and plenty of farm related events and demonstrations. The schedule for both days follows.

Farmer’s Markets
Visit all three three Farmer’s Markets in Davie County this week!
On Friday, 6/29 the Peachtree Farmer’s Market in Bermuda Run will be open from 4-9 pm at the corner of Peachtree Lane and Highway 801 South. This farmer’s market will be open each Friday from 4-9 PM through October.
On Saturday, 6/230 the Farmington Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 am to 1 pm at the Farmington Community Center located at 1723 Farmington Road. This farmer’s market provides locally grown produce, honey, jellies and local homemade items and will be open from 8 am to 1 pm each Saturday through October.
On Tuesday, 7/3 the Heritage Farmer’s Market will be open from 2-6 pm at the Davie Farm Service/Southern States building located at 116 Wilkesboro Street. This farmer’s market will be open each Tuesday from 2-6 pm.
Classis Car Cruise-In ~ Free Event
Visit the beautiful square in historic downtown Mocksville on Monday, July 2nd from 5:30 to 9:00 pm for a classic car “Cruise-In” presented by the Piedmont Classic C.A.R.S. Club. The town square in Mocksville will be transformed into a scene from the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s as beautiful classic cars, some sporting car-hop trays and fuzzy dice line the streets. The cruise-in draws participants from the surrounding areas stretching from the Virginia border to the Sandhills. If the weather is good, the cruise-in will draw as many as 250 cars.
Music and 50/50 Raffle
Music will be provided throughout the evening by DJ Barry Lentz and there will also be a 50/50 raffle.
Bent Nickel Performing at Restaurant 101
Bent Nickel will perform blue grass and country music on Saturday, June 3oth from 7-10 pm at Restaurant 101 which is located on the square in downtown Mocksville. Although this event is not part of the free summer concert series on the square, there is no cover charge for this event inside Restaurant 101.
