It’s the same beloved golf course, but with a new look, a new restaurant, and new owners. Community officials and residents were invited to explore Colin Creek Golf Club and dine at 64-Bistro as they celebrated their opening on June 28th with a Davie Chamber ribbon-cutting ceremony and Let’s Do Lunch event. Formerly known as Hickory Hill and later Lake Louise, the club is located at 2251 US 64 E., in Mocksville.

Sad to see the club’s deterioration following the death of its owner, two area physicians, Dr. David Duncan, a Winston-Salem thoracic surgeon, who has lived in the area for 20 years, and Dr. Joel Edwards, a family practitioner in Davie County, purchased the club last year and have made numerous renovations, with many more on the drawing board.

Duncan and Edwards hope to return the club to its former glory. “As most of you probably know, 50 years ago this club opened as Hickory Hill and quickly became the epicenter of Davie County,” said Duncan “A lot of folks grew up here, a lot of folks brought their kids to play in the pool and run around the grounds. People have many great memories, but over the years a lot of that was lost. A couple of years ago, after the golf club closed, some of us realized what we had lost and we began to develop a vision of what this place could look like if we modernized and redesigned things. We asked some consultants to come by and take a look at things and they told us that we needed to keep the cost down and make it faster. They said that people don’t want to spend four or five hours and $50 playing golf, they’d rather spend two hours and $20 playing golf. We took their recommendations seriously and have recreated a place families can enjoy.”
The new Colin Creek Golf Club has a unique 12-hole layout that can be played in two hours, or the first six holes can be played again from different tee boxes allowing the course to be played as 18 holes. Golfers can walk 12 or 18 holes for only $12, or they can take a golf cart for $3 every six holes. These prices are good every day of the week and for all ages of player — juniors to seniors.
They are also making club memberships affordable. Colin Creek Golf Club ownership group is offering a membership deal of $600 for a family or $500 for an individual, with an initial two-year commitment. This fee includes unlimited golf — paying for a golf cart — along with unlimited use of the driving range and a 10 percent discount on food and beverage at 64 Bistro.
64 Bistro, which is owned and operated by Michael Burton and run by chef Ryan Krige, now offers casual and fine dining, with optional seating in the renovated clubhouse’s spacious dining room or the beautiful outside pavilion, built by Justin Draughn Construction. The pavilion is also available for event rentals to host weddings, birthday parties or other large gatherings.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner featuring a full menu that includes barbecue, brisket, ribs, chicken, smoked wings, fish, tacos, salads, and wraps. There will also be live music played at night during the weekends.
Food is a passion of mine,” said Burton. “It’s been a goal of mine to open up a storefront where the community can come together to enjoy good quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. We are happy to offer Davie County another great place to enjoy.”
Future plans include a health park open to the public which will include walking and biking trails that interconnect with the golf course, a children’s park and exercise area, as well as an adult physical fitness area and a dog park. There are also plans to construct a dock for boating, canoes, and kayaks, as well as fishing from the embankments.
Colin Creek Golf Club also has a swimming pool and tennis courts that are currently in need of repair before possibly reopening. “I’ve been asked about the swimming pool by everybody,” Duncan said. “ I would love to open the pool back, but we’ll have to have the business to justify doing that.”
Julius Suiter — a popular, retired Davie High School principal and coach — runs the club as the general manager and was instrumental in getting it re-opened.
“I can guarantee you this golf course would have never re-opened without Julius and his persistence and staying on top of things,” Duncan said. “He was in my ear as soon as the club closed asking what we could do to get it open again. He’s been a great asset to the community. We absolutely love him for what he did to get all of this going.”
Suiter, an original member of Hickory Hill in 1968, is proud of the new Colin Creek Golf Club.
“When you look out at that green grass it’s impossible to recall what this course looked like three years ago when it was covered with weeds and the grass was out of control,” Suiter said. “Then we met a man with some smarts, David Shelton, our course superintendent, who took what we had and turned it into the beautiful course you see today. Now we need to spread the word that we are open and that there’s a new golf course in town.”
During the ceremony, Mocksville Mayor Will Marklin thanked the club’s owners for making the investment and bringing golf back to Mocksville. “This club is an asset not only to the county but to the town of Mocksville. A lot of Mocksville residents have enjoyed coming out here to hear the music, eat great food, and play golf. I’ve played this excellent course and enjoyed the good food at the restaurant and look forward to doing so again.”
