November 2, 2012On Saturday, November 3, the Cooleemee Recreation Department will host a Chicken Stew at the Zachary House in Cooleemee. Walter Ferrell just keeps on cooking – perhaps he needs to open a local restaurant!
Steaming hot, the fall Chicken Stew is becoming an annual event. Sponsored by the Cooleemee Recreation Department, there will be plenty of crackers, all you can eat stew and a drink for $5. Stew will be served beginning at 4:30 PM. Hot dogs will also be sold.
It will be an afternoon of fun with a Cornhole Tournament at 1 pm and a Horseshoe Tournament at 3 pm. Entry fees for these contests are $5 each. Cash prizes will be awarded as a 50-50 split of the entry fees. Come on out and test your skills.
Two new fire pits to keep crowds warm have been installed by volunteers on either side of the brick Memorial Walkway that leads to the historic Zachary House. Volunteer Louise Blackwood called nearly three dozen people over the last month, collecting enough donations to purchase the handsome fire pit kits and concrete for the pads.
The tradition of community gatherings in Cooleemee is strong. Many new people have moved to Cooleemee in the last several years and the Town is always looking for new neighbors who appreciate living in a community that appreciates this heritage of neighbors helping neighbors.
