A Civil Air Patrol unit has been established in Davie County at Sugar Valley Airport. A major focus of the unit will be the development of a Cadet Program for young people, ages 12 – 18.
Parents are invited to an informational session on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
The Davie County unit, called a “Flight,” is being established by the Winston-Salem Squadron which has one of the most successful Cadet Programs in the country. The Sugar Valley Flight is actively recruiting senior adult members and young cadets. The March 5 meeting will be focused on educating parents about the many benefits of the CAP Cadet Program. The meeting will be led by Major Eric Orgain, who has directed the Winston-Salem Cadet Program for the last five years. Major Orgain, of Clemmons, is serving as a mentor to the Sugar Valley Flight and as its first commander. Leadership Training, Aerospace Skills & Emergency Service Activities
Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary unit of the United States Air Force, has three major activities: Aerospace Education, the Cadet Program, and Emergency Services. Aerospace Education is provided for cadets and adults, as well as offered in schools. The Cadet Program provides leadership training, character development, aerospace education, physical fitness, and moral leadership, and it may include flight training and international travel. CAP has a number of camps for cadets that include rigorous outdoor activities and skills training. Cadets also participate in Emergency Services activities. All CAP participants are volunteers. Sugar Valley Airport is making available, without charge, facilities and offices for use by the Flight.
