Memorial Day Observation 11 am at the Brock Monday
Please join us at the Brock Performing Arts Center in Mocksville at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 26th to participate in an authentic remembrance honoring the heroes who make our freedom possible and celebrate the unity and sacrifice that are among the core values that continue to sustain our nation.
Memorial Day began as a day of remembrance for fallen servicemen, first observed on May 30th, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.
From its inception, this was a solemn occasion. Businesses closed for the day, and towns large and small held parades ending at the local cemetery, where eulogies were delivered and prayers offered for the fallen. Citizens tended the graves of the honored dead, decorating them with flowers and flags.
If you can’t make it to the memorial service at the Brock Center, take some time this Memorial Day to honor the ultimate price so many have paid which allows us to enjoy the promise of freedom and opportunity.
Thank you to all of the service men and women serving around the world today and to all those who have served in the past, and thank you to the Town of Mocksville, Davie County and Graham Funeral Home for sponsoring this annual event.
