Upscale-Hoedown-1Love to Dance? Passionate about early childhood education? Then dust off your boots and make plans to dance the night away at Smart Start’s 5th Annual Upscale Hoedown on Friday, January 22nd, Friday, February 5, 6:00 PM at the WinMock in Bermuda Run.

Smart Start of Davie County Prepares Children to Succeed in Kindergarten and Beyond
Smart Start of Davie County’s (SSDC) mission is to prepare all children in Davie County to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. A mission like that takes money, and that’s where you can help.

The Hoedown will be held Friday, January 22nd February 5, beginning at 6 pm at the beautiful WinMock at Kinderton in Bermuda Run. Unique and historically significant, this amazing 1920’s barn turned special events and conference facility, has become a premier site for magnificent weddings, elegant social functions, and distinctive corporate events.

Upscale-Hoedown-2The event will feature dinner, live and silent auctions, a cash bar, entertainment, and plenty of fun!
“Smart Start of Davie County is proud to hold its 5th annual Upscale Hoedown fundraising event!” said Gena Taylor, executive director of Smart Start of Davie County. “We are featuring many fantastic auction items and are so grateful for the community’s support for our sapphire anniversary event!  We only have a few tickets left, so call to get yours today!”

Coveted auction items include: tickets with pit row passes to the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway; 4 Disney Hopper passes; vacation getaways of at least 3 days to Myrtle Beach, Edisto Island, and a mountain home; tickets to the Asheboro and Columbia zoos; passes to the North Carolina Whitewater Center; and a variety of ACC football and basketball tickets.

90% of Critical Brain Development Occurs By Age 5
There are only 2,000 days from the time a baby is born to when that child begins kindergarten. Did you know that 90% of critical brain development occurs during that time?

Proceeds from this fundraiser are critical to continue local early childhood programs.

The money raised at last year’s event enabled:

  • 1673 children to receive books
  • 84 children to receive Parents as Teachers services
  • 15 teen parents to receive Parents as Teachers services
  • 1,884 children, parents, and childcare providers to be reached.

“Proceeds from this event will stay in Davie County and will support home visiting, early education, and literacy programs for local children ages birth to five years old.  The programs that we offer help to give children a strong foundation for elementary school.  We have made many strides through early education initiatives in our community and are humbled by the support from businesses and volunteers to help us make a difference for the little ones in our county!” said Taylor.

Upscale-Hoedown-3How does Smart Start help young children in Davie County?
Smart Start provides one-on-one parent educationand support in families’ homes, through the national Parents as Teachers program. It provides a book every month for every child birth to five, through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, so parents can read to their children. It provides play and learning kits so parents can help their young children learn, grow, and develop. It provides one-on-one information to parents about child care programs in Davie County, and helps low-income working parents pay for child care so they can work.  Smart Start also helps child care programs improve their curriculum, staff education and training, staff turnover, and wages, because high quality child care leads to school success.

With your help, the children of Davie County are getting a Smart Start!
