This August 1st and 2nd, hundreds of people from Davie County and surrounding communities are expected to plunge into the Bermuda Triangle – but they won’t be searching for weird magnetic fields or the lost city of Atlantis. Instead, they’ll be taking part in a variety of events that emphasize fun and fitness for the entire family.
In partnership with the Twin City Youth Soccer Association, the Town of Bermuda Run will host the 1st Annual Bermuda Run Triangle Experience comprising three major events (that’s where the “Triangle” comes from, in case you were wondering).
Friday – Carnival and Concert Event
Things get rolling Friday, August 1st with a Family Carnival & Concert hosted by WinMock at Kinderton, Davie County’s premiere venue for conferences and special events. The site will host carnival rides for kids, and when they’ve worked up an appetite they can enjoy food and beverages from vendors who’ll be on hand (a cash bar offering beer and wine will be provided by WinMock). At 6PM, funk-and-soul band U-Neek Flavur will take the stage for an outdoor concert slated to run until 9PM. Admission for the Carnival & Concert is $10 and includes unlimited rides.
Saturday – 5K River Run and the Bermuda Run Duathlon
On Saturday, August 2nd, the action moves to the BB&T Soccer Park for the second leg of the triangle: the Twin City Field and River Run. Inaugurated in 2010, this year’s 5K run is being sponsored by Novant Health. Runners will leave the starting line at 8AM, just thirty minutes before the running of the Bermuda Run Duathlon. Similar to a triathlon, the Duathlon combines running and cycling in a run-bike-run format that completes the Triangle Experience.
Family Fun Obstacle Course
Those who aren’t participating in or watching these two races are encouraged to tackle the Twin City 1-mile Family Fun Obstacle Course, which opens at 7:30AM.
The first 700 registered runners are guaranteed a T-shirt. Free food will be on hand for those taking part in the 5K run or Duathlon, and registration for either event includes a wristband for unlimited rides at the Carnival. Performance awards will be presented in 14 age-based categories.
All Proceeds to Benefit Twins Foundation
Runners can register the day of the race by visiting the Twin City Soccer Field House Address at 5765 US Hwy. 158 between 6:45AM and 7:45AM, but online registration will save you time and money. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Twins Foundation, which funds the non-profit Twin City Youth Soccer Association’s Financial Assistance program.
