KidsFest: Fun for the Whole Family will be held Saturday, April 21st from 10 a.m.until 2 p.m. at the Brock Gym and Masonic Picnic Grounds located at 644 North Main Street in Mocksville.

This free community event is sponsored by Smart Start of Davie County in conjunction with Davie Recreation and Parks and Davie Family YMCA and will occur rain or shine.  The goal of KidsFest is to provide a fun day of learning for children and to raising awareness for the services and activities available to families of young children in Davie County. KidsFest is a community collaboration with over 20 agencies participating!

New This Year!

KidsFest will have two great new attractions this year: Brenner FIT and the DCCC Enrollment van. Brenner FIT will allow you to learn more about nutrition and increase your cooking skills with hands-on cooking classes. There is limited space for these classes, so be sure to sign up as soon as you arrive! Also, the Davidson County Community College new recruitment bus will be on site showcasing opportunities at the college. Visit the Enrollment Van to learn more!

“We are so excited about our partnership with Brenner Fit and DCCC to showcase new things for our attendees this year!  There will be FUN for everyone!” said Gena Taylor, executive director of Smart Start of Davie County. “This year’s Kidsfest was scheduled to coincide with The Week of the Young Child since our focus is the young children in our community!”

“We have also set a goal to enroll 250 additional children this month in our Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program. Children receive FREE books by signing up!  Please help us reach our goal and share information to any child, aged birth to five, that lives in Davie County! Registration is on our website: www.daviesmartstart.org or families can sign up at the Smart Start table during Kidfest, she added.”

A Host of Activities for Children and Families

BLOCK Fest will be back again this year! BLOCK Fest® is a research-based exhibit that helps raise awareness of early math and science learning by offering hands-on block play experiences to families with young children. Parents, preschool teachers, and the community will become more knowledgeable about the importance of early math and science learning as it affects both school readiness and later math success. BlOCK Fest is for children birth-5 years old and will be held in the Brock Gym from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Kids of all ages will enjoy the excitement of an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, magic show and balloonist, face painting, and much more.

The Davie YMCA will offer several activities for children including the “smoothie bike,” Kid Combat and an aquatic presentation. The Senior Center Boogie Brigade Dancers will showcase their fancy footwork at 10:20 a.m. in the picnic area.  The all-county elementary school choral will perform at 11 a.m on the main stage. The Center, Dulin, and Advance fire departments will be offering tours of a fire truck and smoke house and teaching fire safety.

The Mocksville Masonic Lodge will be selling hot dog meals and drinks, and all proceeds will benefit the Masonic Children’s Home at Oxford.

Family Resources

There will be many representatives from community non-profit and service agencies hosting crafts, games and providing information to parents on family resources and childcare. Each vendor inside the gym will feature an interactive activity for children. Smart Start will be giving away free T-shirts, while supplies last, to young children attending the event at the Smart Start table inside the gym.

“Our annual KidsFest shows families how much fun it can be to learn and do activities together,” Taylor said. “We want to encourage parents to visit with the variety of local agencies to learn more about the programs and services that are available to them in Davie County.”

All events at KidsFest are free, but registration is required. Hundreds of community members enjoyed the event last year. Save time by visiting the Smart Start website to pre-register at www.daviesmartstart.org.

Smart Start of Davie County, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization serving all children in Davie County, from birth to five, by providing quality resources and services for families and child care providers that build a foundation for lifelong learning and success.
