Free Mobile Pharmacy Event this Friday in Mocksville

NC MedAssist will hold a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in Mocksville on Friday, July 27.  The event, which is in collaboration with Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, is open to any low-income individual or family needing free health screenings, education and/or over-the-counter medications.  The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Brock Recreation Center (644 N. Main Street, Mocksville, NC 27028).  Must be 18 or older. No identification is required.

This OTC Give Away Day is a wonderful opportunity for Davie County residents to obtain free over-the-counter medicine that can be very difficult for people on limited incomes to afford. Giveaway items include cold, cough and flu medicine, Band-Aids, pain and allergy relief medicine, vitamins, children’s medicine and more. The free event is open to the public.

“We are always excited to work with our partners at NC MedAssist to support our communities,” said Cardinal Innovations CEO Trey Sutten. “The Mobile Free Pharmacy event is an opportunity for us to make an impact on the health and wellness of the people of Davie County. We look forward to helping provide health resources and education to individuals and families in this community.”

Individuals will receive up to 10 medicine cabinet items for their family/home.  Additionally, participants will receive other free healthcare services which include information on NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program.  NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.

The event is completely volunteer run.  Serving 800 individuals in one day takes many hands to make sure the event runs smoothly and ensures that all participants are served before the door closes. NC MedAssist is partnering with Cardinal Healthcare Innovations and other safety-net organizations to recruit community members to serve in roles such as pharmacy consultation, client ‘personal shoppers’, and sorters.  To date, the organization has  87 of 200 volunteer spaces filled but needs at least 115. Shifts are 2-3 hours, and you can read a description of tasks and sign up here at https://bit.ly/2NFapOR

“NC MedAssist is excited to again work with Cardinal Healthcare Innovations to give back to our neighbors in need,” stated CEO Lori Giang. “Through our collaboration we are able to reach more and more individuals and educate them on our free resources.  No one should go without medicine and this program is enabling us to reach those who are unaware of our free medications.”

There are currently more than 2,000 people in Davie County that live below the Federal Poverty Level and do not qualify for insurance.  Last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed over $48 million in free prescription medication statewide.

To make it easier for all Davie County residents to participate,  YVEDDI has agreed to offer FREE TRANSPORTATION to the OTC event on 7/27! Just wait at any of the regular Circulator stops. For a listing of stops, visit http://ow.ly/Q1Jq30kR2iO. YVEDDI will also offer a reduced fare shuttle service to the OTC event for any person unable to meet at one of the designated Circulator stops. They will pick up any person within the county and take them to the OTC giveaway at the Brock Center in Mocksville. This option will need to be scheduled in advance by calling  336-679-2071 and will cost the rider $6 round trip.
