Interview with Davie County War Eagles High School Football Coach Doug Illing
The Davie County High School football team has beaten 4 straight playoff opponents, bringing the War Eagles to the North Carolina Division 4A State Championship game for the first time in school history. The War Eagles will play Durham Hillside this Saturday in Winston Salem.
The Davie County War Eagles ~ A Cinderella Story
After finishing the regular season with a record of 5 wins and 6 losses, the playoffs began for the Davie County War Eagles with a 35-10 win against Central Piedmont Division rival North Davidson High School. (Details here)
The second round of the playoffs pitted the War Eagles against powerhouse rival Mt. Tabor who had beaten Davie County 7 straight times. A 30-29 overtime victory against Mt. Tabor propelled the War Eagles into round 3 of the state championships. (Details here)
At this point, most in Davie County thought that the Davie County seniors had played the last home game of their War Eagle careers… but surprise, the Davie County War Eagles would play round 3 at home against High Point Central. A 3rd round 18-15 victory at home against High Point Central took the Davie County High School War Eagles into the state semi-finals against Porter Ridge High School. (Details here)
First Semi-Final Victory in School History!
A 21-14 victory against Porter Ridge was the fist semi-final victory in Davie County High School’s 55 year football history. 4 straight wins against North Davidson, Mt Tabor, High Point Central and Porter Ridge brings the War Eagles, undefeated in 2010 post-season play, up against 13-0 Durham Hillside. State Championship On The Line This Saturday!
The Davie County High School War Eagles football team will play for the North Carolina Division 4A state championship at 11:00 AM this Saturday, December 11th at BB&T Field, Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC. Tickets for the game are available at www.nchsaa.org.
