Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will stay these leprechauns from the swift completion of their race. The 29th annual Shamrock 5K & 10K Run will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2017. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to A Storehouse for Jesus.
Fun for the Whole Family!
“We have had many repeat runners who have participated in our race year in and year out, including the late Margaret Haggerty, who ran in the first 27 Shamrock Runs,” said David Taylor, parish business manager for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. “Such loyalty from our runners shows that the race is a fun, family event for both young and old.”
People Helping People – 29 Years of Community Giving
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church has been hosting the Shamrock Run for 29 years to help local charities and the Davie County community! The Shamrock Run began back in 1988 as a church fundraiser.
Approximately 15 years ago, the church decided to have a greater impact on the community by sponsoring organizations that help those in need. The 2016 event raised money for the Dragonfly House Children’s Advocacy Center. The Shamrock Run has raised thousands for organizations in need throughout Davie County including Habitat for Humanity, Davie Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, the Davie County Pregnancy Care Center, Hospice & Palliative Care of Davie County, and the Davie Family YMCA.
“In addition to raising money, we hope to bring awareness to the different organizations that serve those in need,” said Taylor. “Hopefully that awareness will provide them will new volunteers and additional donations.”
“We hope our participants get a little bit of enjoyment from running as they give back to the community as well,” he added.
Participants may register online at www.active.com until noon on Wednesday March 1st, and in person on Friday, March 3rd from 4-7 PM and on the day of the race.
This Corporate Challenge Fitness Run/Walk will be featured again this year. Each group with over 10 participants will be recognized at the awards ceremony after the 5K.
The 5k and 10k races are certified by the USA Track and Field Association and will run a scenic route through the heart of historic downtown Mocksville.

Sponsors Make it Happen
“We appreciate the support of our local police and EMS over the years in directing traffic and having a medical presence in our downtown area,” said Taylor. “ We also appreciate the Davie County Chamber of Commerce for advertising the race on its billboard on I-40 as well as its website each year. We’d like to give a special thank you to our sponsors, who truly make the charity and race possible. Our food has always set us apart from other races and we are thankful to have many different types of food to offer.”
