Mocksville Christmas Parade This Saturday – Holiday Events Roundup!
It’s beginning to look a lot Like Christmas and the holidays just wouldn’t be complete without the annual Hometown Christmas Parade sponsored this year by the Mocksville Tourism Authority. This year’s parade theme is “The Gifts of Christmas”.
The parade will feature everything from walking groups, performers, horseback riders, single vehicles to full-blown floats, candy for the kids, and of course, Santa Claus. The parade will depart from Rich Park at 2 p.m. Saturday and will travel down Main Street, turn left on Depot Street, and end at Railroad Street where dismantling will begin. Prizes will be awarded to the best parade participants. First place wins $75; second place will receive $50; and third place earns $25.
Find Your Parade Seat Early and do a Little Christmas Shopping on Saturday!
Several downtown merchants will be hosting annual holiday open houses with refreshments and store specials. They would love to help you find the perfect gift for that special someone.
Christmas at the Brock – Saturday, December 1st, 7:30 p.m.
Free event. Your Davie County Arts Council has a special evening planned for you at their fourth annual Christmas Celebration at the Brock. This free event will feature performances by Beth Dodson, Daniel H. Dodson, The First United Methodist Church Bell Choir, His and Her’s, and Tess and the Black and Blues Band!
Community Christmas Festival – WinMock Barn – Sunday, December 2, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Free event. Come and join the community at the beautiful, historic WinMock barn to start off the Advent season with a fun night of fellowship! Sponsored by Church of the Good Shepherd in East Davie, there will be plenty of Christmas crafts and games, seasonal desserts and beverages, and a special reading of the Christmas story followed by the classic carols we all know and love. All ages are welcome, and there is no cost for admission. Donations will be accepted for victims of Hurricane Florence.
A Promise of Christmas – Thursday, December 6, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Cost $60
On behalf of Family Promise of Davie County, you are invited to support the inaugural Promise of Christmas gala at Triple J Manor House on December 6th from 6-8pm. The evening will consist of catered food, beer/wine bar, live DJ, and a decorated tree auction. This event helps raise the funds necessary to continue providing day and night shelter, transportation, intensive case management, and follow-up support for families. Come out, get your decorated Christmas tree, and give back to your community!
Family Promise of Davie County (FPDC) is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary shelter and comprehensive supportive services to children and their families experiencing homelessness. It utilize’s a community-based response through a partnership of faith-based congregations who use their facilities and organized volunteers to provide overnight shelter and food.
Piedmont Firefighters Pipes and Drums – Friday, December 7, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Free event. Piedmont Firefighters Pipes & Drums will be strolling through the downtown Mocksville area on Friday, December 7th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. “We are Piedmont Firefighters Pipes and Drums, carrying on the tradition of Irish/Scottish heritage” says their Facebook page. The band is composed of firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics, public safety personnel and civilians from Forsyth, Yadkin, Davidson and surrounding counties.”
Advance Christmas Parade – Saturday, December 8, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Free event – Advance Christmas parade presented by the Advance Fire Department. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the festivities.
All parade participants must line up before 9 a.m. Floats and trailers will meet in the LeBleu parking lot located at 3134 Cornatzer Rd., Advance, NC 27006. All classic cars, fire trucks, motorcycles, horses and other parade participants will meet in the parking lot of Shady Grove Elementary School located at 3179 Cornatzer Rd, Advance, NC 27006. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the school and follows Cornatzer Road, turning right onto Highway 801 and left on Peoples Creek Road.
Registration is FREE and can be done on-site at arrival.
Chicken Stew at Advance Fire Department Following Parade
At the conclusion of this year’s parade, there will be a chicken stew and hot dog fundraiser at the Advance Fire Department. Donations will be accepted. Relax and enjoy a delicious meal while the streets clear. At the same location, the Advance Fire Department Auxiliary will sponsor pictures with Santa. Santa will be decked out in his fire department gear in front of the fire truck for children and family pictures. Donations from this event will benefit “What Christmas Is All About.”
“What Christmas Is All About” is an annual event hosted by the Advance Fire Department. Volunteers gather to prepare and deliver gifts to shut-ins, families experiencing sickness or loss, or someone who just needs an extra dose of cheer for Christmas.
Holiday Crawl – Saturday, December 8, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Free event. The Holiday Crawl will take place in downtown Mocksville on Saturday, December 8th from Noon – 4 p.m. Each retail merchant will have a space set up for children to make a simple and free gift for a parent.
Downtown Hayrides – Saturday, December 8, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Free event. Come out to downtown Mocksville for a hayride and enjoy the festive Christmas holiday lights and atmosphere. While downtown, enjoy an ice cream or hot cocoa or a dinner at our local restaurants after the ride. Merchants will be OPEN for your holiday gifts. Bring a blanket to stay WARM. This event is Free and will start at 185 N. Main St., Sadie’s Shoppe on the Corner!
Frosty Fun Movie in the Park – Friday, December 14, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Free event. Come enjoy the film Home Alone (rated PG), at Main Street Park for FREE. Wear your warm pajamas and bring a sleeping bag or warm blanket to stay warm. There will be heaters and of course, hot chocolate. And best of all, they will have a snow machine working that festive night!
READasaurus Rocks at the Brock – Saturday, December 15, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Free event. READasaurus Rocks, with Mark Daniel, sets the audience’s imagination on full power incorporating puppetry, storytelling, magic tricks, and audience participation. Enjoy the retelling of CHICA CHICA BOOM BOOM, CHARLOTTE’S WEB, and more. In celebration of the holidays, Mark closes with his signature piece, based on THE POLAR EXPRESS.
A Day with Santa & Mrs. Claus – Saturday, December 15, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Free event. Spend the day with Santa & Mrs. Claus at Sadie’s Shoppe in downtown Mocksville! Bring your letters to Santa and visit a live nativity set and feed the reindeer!
Davie Community Band & Christmas Tunes – Saturday, December 15, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Free event. Come out and enjoy your favorite Christmas tunes at the Main Street Park in downtown Mocksville as performed by your Davie Community Band.
