On Sunday night, 7/15/2012, the Mocksville Davie American Legion baseball team is scheduled to play Rowan County for the final game of the Southern Division Area III quarter-final playoff series. This is a home game at Rich Park in Mocksville.
After winning their first division championship since 1993, Mocksville-Davie swept Concord 3 games to none while Rowan swept Mooresville 3 games to none in the first round of the 2012 playoffs.
The quarter-final playoff series began with Mocksville (24-8) winning the first two games of the best of five series against Rowan County (17-17) only to have Rowan come back and tie the series 2-2 with a 10-5 win Saturday night in Salisbury.
Come on out and watch the Mocksville-Davie “boys of summer” in the final game of the 2012 quarter-final playoff round at Mando Field, Rich Park in Mocksville at 7 PM.
A rain cancellation tonight would result in Mocksville-Davie being declared the quarter-final champions as the series would revert to a best of three format because the semi-final playoffs begin Monday night.
Baseball at Rich Park
Baseball at Mando Field in Rich Park on a summer evening is like a living Norman Rockwell painting.
Mando Field at Rich Park provides the perfect setting for an evening of baseball and it might remind you of the movie “Field of Dreams.” There is plenty of shade and usually a nice cool breeze, night lights and great food, and fans doing the wave on the hill that parallels the first base line.
The enclosed bleachers offer seating to those with more formal baseball watching tastes while the hill along the first-base line provides seating for those with lawn chairs and blankets. Baseball at Rich Park is a great family friendly affair with hotdogs all-the-way, roasted peanuts and popcorn and crackerjacks, sunflower seeds, and of course, Cheer-Wine and other soft-drinks.
Davie County has a rich baseball history and the Mocksville-Davie American Legion Baseball Teams are chasing the 2012 pennant almost every evening. With 28 games scheduled in 35 days, these boys of summer are playing because they love the game of baseball! We hope to see you all at Rich Park!
