The Mocksville/Davie American Legion Post 54 Baseball team will host North Wilkesboro for game one of the 2014 American Legion Playoffs tonight beginning at 7:00 PM at Rich Park. The first round is a best of 5 series.
After playing 27 games in just 37 days, the Mocksville-Davie American Legion Post 54 team finished the regular season in second place and our boys of summer are in full swing with home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs!
American Legion Baseball ~ The Purest Form of the Sport
A national sports writer and television producer, Matt Gibson, once observed that “American Legion Baseball is perhaps the purest form of the sport and the most fun to watch. There are no player salaries and the grueling schedule leaves little time for beach trips or vacations for these young men. This kind of sacrifice means that only those who really love the game are playing. Most American Legion Baseball players have played for several years at the high school varsity level and some even have a season of college experience under their belts. These years of experience and a love for the game by both players and coaches combine for quality sport competition.”
Join us for Family Friendly Entertainment and a “Wave” on the Hill
Mando Field at Rich Park provides the perfect setting for an evening of baseball under the lights. The setting may remind you of the movie “Field of Dreams” or it may seem like a Norman Rockwell painting brought to life.
There is plenty of shade before the sun goes down and there is usually a nice cool breeze. Enclosed bleachers offer seating to those with more formal tastes while the grassy hill along the first-base line provides seating for those who prefer lawn chairs and blankets while taking part in a wave when our boys of summer hits one out of the park for a home run or when we retire the other side with a well-executed triple play!
Peanuts and Popcorn and Crackerjacks
The concession stand has the perfect mix of baseball food and snacks; everything from hot dogs all-the-way, roasted peanuts and popcorn, to crackerjacks, sunflower seeds, and of course, Cheer-Wine and other soft-drinks.
