Ruffin Named Interim County Manager for Davie County

on March 2, 2022

The Davie County Board of Commissioners has appointed former Davie County Manager Mike Ruffin to serve as interim county manager following County Manager David Bone’s resignation last week. He will serve the county for approximately six months while the county seeks a permanent manager.

“We are fortunate to have Mike. Mike will be effective in building confidence and stability within the organization, but will also be exceptionally valuable as we diligently search the marketplace for a permanent county manager,” said Commissioner Mark Jones.

Ruffin has more than 40 years of city and county management experience.  He served as Durham County Manager from 2000 until he retired in 2014, and held similar posts in the Atlanta, Charlotte, and the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan areas.

Ruffin returned from retirement in 2014 and served as Davie County Manager in both interim and permanent capacities from 2014-2017. During his time with Davie County, Ruffin was involved with the new high school project where he supervised the selling of the bonds used to approve the new high school construction contract. Additional projects included the transition of the Recreation and Parks program to the county, and he was heavily involved with the design and installation of the 800 MHz radio system for the county’s public safety services.

Ruffin was recognized for his service in 2016 by then-Governor Pat McCrory with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.  He is also an honorary member of the International City and County Management Association and the North Carolina City and County Management Association.

Ruffin is a graduate of East Carolina University with a B.S. in Urban and Regional Planning and holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“Public service is a high honor, and I look forward to serving the citizens of Davie County.  This is an exceptional organization that is well led and teeming with outstanding employees providing outstanding services.  I look forward to helping them continue the fine work they do,” said Ruffin.

He and his wife, Robbie, have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
