As of 1 p.m., on January 21, 2016 Davie County has declared a State of Emergency. Please be advised of the following:
Per the National Weather Service, northeast areas of Davie County are anticipated to receive 8-12 inches of snow on Friday. In the southern parts of the county, we are anticipated to receive 4-6 inches of snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain—this is expected to begin overnight (early Friday morning). Sustained winds are expected to be 10-12 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.
Residents are urged to take precautions now and plan for inclement weather! The projected forecast is ideal for widespread power outages. Davie County Emergency Management strongly urges all residents to STAY OFF THE ROADS unless it is absolutely necessary.
Davie County Emergency Management, along with the American Red Cross, are making preliminary plans to set up an emergency shelter (if necessary due to widespread power outages) at the Brock Gymnasium located on N. Main Street in Mocksville.
To report power outages or to determine road conditions, call 511. To report a life or death emergency, call 911.
Residents are also urged to make sure cell phones are charged fully prior to the impending severe weather as this will enable them to stay updated in the event of power outages.
