The teachers became the students as 28 Davie County educators explored using the arts to teach reading, a skill that is fundamental for success in school as well as in life. This A+ Schools training was in preparation for Davie’s summer Read to Achieve Camp which is designed to help third graders who have not met state requirements in reading to advance to the fourth grade. Walmart Offers Customers Added Convenience with New Free Grocery Pickup Service

Walmart in Mocksville wants to change the way you buy groceries by offering free online grocery pickup with a minimum $30 purchase. “Customers today are looking for more convenience, choice, and savings, so we’re creating an experience that offers customers the convenience of shopping online and the ease of quickly picking up groceries without having to leave their cars,” said Garry Steele, assistant manager of e-commerce. ApSeed and Mebane Foundation Join Forces to Provide 1,000 Mobile Touchscreen Tablet e-Readers FREE to Qualifying Davie County Preschool Children

The Mebane Foundation and ApSeed Early Childhood Education have joined forces to increase literacy scores among at-risk children in Davie County by providing a free e-Reader preloaded with applications designed to improve literacy and strengthen vocabulary. Thanks to a $105,000 grant from the Foundation, based in Mocksville, NC, 1,000 custom-built tablets, called Seedlings, will be distributed free of charge to children 0-4 whose families are enrolled in the WIC program through the Davie County Department of Public Health or Parents as Teachers through Smart Start of Davie County. Ingersoll Rand Expanding Apprenticeship Program in Mocksville

Ashley Kern calls Craig Moore her first success story. The first to complete Ingersoll Rand’s apprenticeship program which began in 2015, Moore is now a full-time employee in the Mocksville plant’s maintenance department. “Craig is our first success story and a poster child for the program,” Kern, human resources generalist, said with a smile. “He did an awesome job in the apprenticeship program, finished his schooling at DCCC, and the maintenance team has had really positive things to say about him. Ingersoll Rand is expanding its operations with plans to create 25 jobs and invest nearly $30 million in the Mocksville plant by the end of 2019. The Mocksville plant sits on 130 acres in Davie County, employs around 400 full-time employees, and supports the Compression Technology Services Branch of Ingersoll Rand through the manufacturing of Rotary, Centrifugal, and Thermo King air compressors and fabricating parts for our Trane businesses. RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls evokes memories of warm summer days fishing and swimming in the Bullhole and lazy walks along the beautifully wooded trails for residents across Davie County.
