KidsFest: Fun for the Whole Family will be held Saturday, May 14th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Brock Gym and Masonic Picnic Grounds located at 644 North Main Street in Mocksville.
This free community event is co-sponsored by Smart Start of Davie County, Inc. and the Mocksville-Davie Parks and Recreation Department, and will occur rain or shine.
A Host of Activities for Children and Families
Kids of all ages will enjoy the excitement of an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, fire truck and smoke house, bunnies, a magic show and balloonist, Zumba, Lowe’s Build and Grow, face painting, and much more. A combined all-county elementary school choral performance will be presented at 11:00 AM.
New This Year
The Davie YMCA is providing a “smoothie bike”. Riding the bike powers the attached blender to make smoothies! The Senior Center Boogie Brigade Dancers will make their Kids Fest debut as well. The YMCA will offer a youth training session at 10:15 on the main stage. New food vendors include Mel’s Mini Doughnuts & PDQ (serving chicken tenders meals) with a portion of the proceeds going to SSDC.
Family Resources
This year’s featured parent/child session is called Kidpower. Hosted by Davie Domestic Violence, it will share skills for lifelong safety. There will be many representatives from community non-profit and service agencies hosting crafts, games and providing information to parents on family resources. Each vendor inside the gym will feature an interactive activity for children. Smart Start will be giving away free T-shirts to young children attending the event, while supplies last.
“At this year’s KidsFest we are really encouraging families to be interactive and learn about the resources available in the community,” said Gena Taylor, Executive Director of Smart Start of Davie County. “We want to encourage parents to be involved with their kids and this event shows families just how much fun that can be. We also want to encourage families to visit with the local agencies to learn more about the programs and services that are available to them in Davie County.”
“Smart Start of Davie County would like to thank all of the organizations that work together with us and the Mocksville-Davie Parks and Recreation Department to make this event possible. We are fortunate to have the support of the Davie County community,” Taylor added.
All events at KidsFest are free, but registration is required. There were over 800 people in attendance at this event last year. Save time by visiting the Smart Start website to pre-register at www.daviesmartstart.org. After completing the online registration, stop by one of the three registration tables the day of the event to get your welcome bag! Volunteers are still needed and will receive a free t-shirt!
