A Promise of Christmas: Celebrate the Season by Giving Hope

on November 12, 2025

A Night to Make a Difference

The holidays are a time for joy, family, and giving—and A Promise of Christmas offers a chance to do all three. Family Promise of Davie County invites the community to a fun and festive evening dedicated to helping local families find stability and home this holiday season.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, from 6–9 p.m. at The Farm at Oak Hill and will feature a delicious catered dinner from Honky Tonk Smokehouse, a beer and wine bar, a tacky Christmas sweater contest, and a lively auction filled with great items and experiences.

“All proceeds from A Promise of Christmas go directly toward helping families in crisis get back on their feet,” shared Stephanie Chandler, executive director of Family Promise of Davie County. “It’s a wonderful evening of community, laughter, and love—and every ticket sold helps a family in need.”

Tickets are available now at www.familypromisedc.org/christmas. Exciting online auction items can be found on the Swicegood Group website HERE. The online auction ends at 6 p.m. on November 24th. Family Promise is also seeking sponsors. Those interested can contact Chandler at stephanie@familypromisedc.org.

The Reality of Family Homelessness

It’s easy to overlook, but family homelessness is more common—and closer to home—than many realize. Across the U.S., more than three million children experience homelessness each year. In Davie County, 128 students were identified as experiencing homelessness during the 2024-2025 school year.

“Family and rural homelessness are often invisible crises, yet the need for safe, stable housing in our community is immense. Addressing this issue requires a collective effort. Shelter is one of our most basic human needs, and lasting change is only possible when the entire community comes together. We invite everyone to be part of the solution.”

In Davie County, a renter must earn $22.37 per hour to afford a modest two-bedroom home. Nearly 20% of local households are cost-burdened by housing, and 42% of renters have difficulty affording their homes. This year, 46 families have faced foreclosure, and 155 families have faced an eviction filing.

How Family Promise Helps Families Rebuild

Family Promise of Davie County provides practical, compassionate support to families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Since opening its doors in 2017, the organization has helped over 600 families—including more than 900 children—find stability, hope, and a path forward. Even more impressive, 94% of families served remain housed one year after completing the program.

“Families often come to us in moments of crisis, and our mission is to help them rebuild their lives with new skills, resources, and ongoing support,” Chandler said. “Our work spans the full continuum of care — from prevention services that keep families housed, to shelter and case management for those experiencing homelessness, to stabilization programs that help families remain independent long-term.”

The organization’s work includes:

  • Homelessness Prevention & Shelter Diversion – Emergency financial help and support services that keep families in their homes.
  • Family Shelter – Safe, short-term housing for families, along with job training and access to resources.
  • Transitional Housing – Two temporary homes that give families structure and stability while working toward permanent housing.
  • Stabilization Support – Continued case management for at least one year after families graduate to ensure long-term success.

“Addressing family homelessness takes a community effort,” Chandler said. “By coming together for A Promise of Christmas, you’re helping to ensure that every child in Davie County has a safe place to call home.”
