Bluegrass Festival Holds Special Activities, Honors First Responders
“CBC is the place to be, especially on 9/11,” says CBC Bluegrass Festival Chairman Greg Brewer of Wilkesboro. “Our annual festival is falling on that special day this year and we want to help make it a good one for our kids.”
The twentieth anniversary of 9/11 will be remembered at the 9th annual Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival in Mocksville, NC on Saturday, September 11.
All active-duty U. S. military, law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMTs will receive free admission to the festival by presenting appropriate ID at the festival gate at 1988 Jericho Church Road, Mocksville, NC, 27028.
The festival is offering the following special activities for younger guests:
- 1-1:30 p.m. – Music with Miss Laura at The Swicegood Group’s Pickers’ Place. No prior musical training required to have a great time here.
- 1:30-2:15 p.m. – Photos With Heroes at the AGAPE of NC Kids’ Activities Tent. (Parents, bring your cameras and cellphones to snap photos of your children with heroes in uniform, some of whom will bring job appropriate items to “show and tell.”)
- 2:15 – 3:00 p.m. – Nature Walk with Miss Charity, beginning at the AGAPE of NC Kids’ Activities Tent. Includes a brochure to identify plants and trees, as well as a Bible lesson.
- 3-3:30 p.m. – Ga-Ga Ball demonstration at the Ga-Ga Ball pit. All ages.
- 4-5:00 p.m. – Don’t miss our headliner, Scythian – they always do a set of “camp” songs just for the young and young at heart.
- 5:00 p.m. – Meet up at the AGAPE of NC Kids’ Activities Tent to participate in the Parade of Kids and help us announce our 2022 festival line-up. Too much excitement for the youngest guests? Visit the calm, quiet AGAPE of NC Nappin’ Cabin (Cabin #7 in the lower portion of the campus).
- 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., parents/guardians/nursing mothers may attend to their young children in this quiet, air-conditioned cabin. Restroom facilities, bunk beds and a limited number of Pack’n Play portable cribs are available. Face masks will be required for all adults as well as for those children who can tolerate them; after all, the purpose is to give the youngest guests a restful break, not exasperate them. An adult volunteer will be on hand to sanitize the rooms between visits and change the provided Pack’n Play crib sheets. (This is not a babysitting service and children may not be left unattended.)

The festival stage activities will open with welcoming remarks and a prayer by Carolina Bible Camp Board Chairman David Allgood of Fuquay-Varina at 10:45 a.m. The Wilkes Seniors on Stage will perform The Star-Spangled Banner, and WXII news television anchor Talitha Vickers will lead The Pledge of Allegiance.
Retired U. S. Air Force General Roger A. Brady of Raleigh, NC, former Commander of the U. S. Air Forces in Europe, will recognize veterans and members of the armed forces.
Music will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 5:30 p.m. Performing artists include Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road, BackPorch Bluegrass, His & Hers, 2019 IBMA Entertainer of the Year Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, and Scythian.
Talitha Vickers will have copies of her new children’s book for sale at the Artists’ Merchandise tent throughout the morning. The book, Why My Hero Had To Go, was written for children of military parents facing deployment. Vickers tells the story of a little boy and his military dad, which she based upon the real-life story of her brother and his young son. Her book offers lessons on how “different children are uniquely united through courage, kindness, inclusion and love.”

Tickets for the all-volunteer produced Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival 2021 are on sale at www.cbcbluegrass.com. Ticket prices remain unchanged at $15 in advance and $20 at the gate; children under 12 are admitted free with a paying adult or active-duty military/first responder.

The festival will be held rain or shine. Professional grade tents will keep guests comfortable.
Guests are encouraged to follow all COVID-19 protocols as recommended by the state of North Carolina. Masks are required when indoors on the Bible camp property. Masks are strongly recommended even outdoors when near others. Social distancing and proper handwashing are recommended and encouraged.
