Chick-fil-A receives a warm welcome from Davie County officials and business leaders during a groundbreaking ceremony on January 6, 2023.

It’s official. Davie County’s first Chick-fil-A broke ground today in the Kinderton Place shopping center in Bermuda Run with plans to open the restaurant in late Spring 2023.

Local officials and business leaders were on hand to congratulate franchisee David Moore and welcome him to the community.

It was an important moment for Davie County residents who have long sought to have the wildly popular chain open a restaurant in the community. “It’s really exciting to start off the year with a groundbreaking ceremony for the most requested business in Davie County,” exclaimed Caroline Moser, president of the Davie Chamber, welcoming Moore and the company. “I’ve told my staff that if I had a dollar for every time I was asked about Chick-fil-A, I would be rich and in Fiji right now.”

“Excitement is definitely the theme today, as we’ve been waiting for years for Chick-fil-A to say ‘yes, we are coming to Bermuda Run,’” continued Chamber Board Chair and Bermuda Run Council Member Melinda Szeliga. “Caroline shared with me that a couple of years ago at our annual meeting, we surveyed the members of the Chamber about the business they would most like to see come to Davie County, and they said Chick-fil-A.  We are delighted that you are finally coming to Davie County, and on behalf of the Town of Bermuda Run, I welcome you.”

Bermuda Run Mayor Rick Cross added, “Whenever we have these types of events I try to think about what I’m going to say to welcome someone to our community, but David has already been a part of this community. Chick-fil-A has been involved with our community for a number of years and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have you plant both feet in Davie County.”

Representatives from the Chick-fil-A in Clemmons break ground on the new Chick-fil-A in Bermuda Run. (L to R) Taylor Proffitt, Taylor Jordan, Jonathan Griffin, Susan Moore, David Moore, Loni Bovenzi, Thom Hayes, and AJ Highsmith.

Thanking everyone for the warm welcome, Moore, who has operated the Chick-fil-A in Clemmons since 2017, shared a few remarks. “We are so excited that in a short period of time, we will be here to serve this community. As Rick said, we already feel like a part of this community. We have 19 schools that we partner with, and probably at least half of them are in Davie County. So we feel like we have deep roots here already. I think this was a pretty easy decision for Chick-fil-A, and what an honor to have a second Chick-fil-A, which is a big honor in the operator world.’

“I couldn’t be here today without telling you about my faith. I am so grateful to God for this opportunity. Chick-fil-A’s mission statement is to be the world’s most caring company, and we get to do that here in this community by loving people every day wherever they are. We know we can’t get everyone to a 10, but if through a hot sandwich, a kind word, and a warm smile we can get them from a 4 to a 6, that’s what we want to do. It’s not about chicken, we are in the people business.

“I am thankful to the Lord for giving me this chance, and for giving me a team that allows us to care for people every day. I’ve got amazing leaders here that I hope you will get to meet because they are the strength of the team. My amazing wife, Susan, is my better half, my counselor, and my rock, I couldn’t do any of this without her. What a great honor it is to be here and we are so grateful to break ground in Bermuda Run and Davie County,” Moore concluded.

The new restaurant will be located at the former Rite-Aid drug store site, which neighbors the Lowes Foods gas station and Allegacy Federal Credit Union.

The potential for a Chick-fil-A at the site surfaced in January 2022 when an engineering group associated with the restaurant chain submitted a request for a design waiver from the Bermuda Run planning board. The board unanimously approved the request.

It is likely that the traffic generated by Truist Sports Park and Rise Indoor Sports played a role in attracting the chain restaurant to Davie County.
