A Small Town Brimming with Holiday Cheer

The Town of Cooleemee ushered in the holiday season with sparkle and tradition during its annual Christmas Parade on November 29th. Beginning at Cooleemee Elementary School and ending at the historic Zachary House, this cherished event brought together families and neighbors from across Davie County.

Traditions that Bring Generations Together

Participants lined up at 3 p.m. before creating a joyful procession through town. Festive floats, community groups, and cheerful residents filled the streets with Christmas spirit before gathering at the Zachary House for the next phase of the celebration.

Honoring History, Heritage, and the Spirit of Community

Mayor Jeff Smith welcomed the large crowd and reflected on Cooleemee’s legacy. Established in 1898 and incorporated in 1985, the town celebrates 40 years as an incorporated community this year. He shared enthusiasm for Cooleemee’s future—especially the upcoming groundbreaking for a new community center—and highlighted the importance of gathering together to enjoy traditions like tasting fudge, sipping cocoa, visiting Santa, and reconnecting with old friends.

Guests enjoyed a heartfelt program featuring:

  • Biblical Story from Luke – Justin Blue, The Bridge Church
  • ’Twas the Night Before Christmas – Lynn Vogler
  • Time with Santa & Mrs. Claus
  • Caroling and fellowship

This annual gathering was proudly sponsored by Cooleemee Historical Association (CHA), the Town of Cooleemee, and The Bridge Church,  whose partnership continues to make Old-Time Christmas a treasured community tradition.

A Sweet Return of a Crowd Favorite

The fudge contest—created years ago by former Mayor John Chandler—once again delighted attendees. Former Mayor Steve Corriher also played a key role in establishing the Christmas Parade several years ago, shaping two traditions the community cherishes.

For the second year in a row, Cathy Cook claimed first place, impressing judges and neighbors with her delicious homemade creation.

A Community Where Christmas Spirit Thrives

From honoring its history to celebrating its future, Cooleemee continues to shine as a place where traditions matter, neighbors connect, and the true spirit of Christmas thrives.
