The Davie County Chamber of Commerce recently donated $2,000 to the Davie Community Foundation to support IGNITE DAVIE, a college promise program which will provide Davie County students the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school graduation through college assistance.
The funds came from the sale of iShopDavie cards that offer discounts to area businesses, Keith Beck’s idea to support both IGNITE DAVIE and local businesses at the same time.
“IGNITE DAVIE is such an amazing opportunity for the students of Davie County,” said Beck, an agent with Farm Bureau in Mocksville and treasurer for the Davie County Chamber of Commerce. “I knew that I wanted to make a larger contribution than what I could personally donate. One day, as I was pulling out my South Davie card, I realized that a discount card could be the answer.”
When he ran the idea by Chamber President Caroline Moser and the Chamber Board he received full support. “We had 100% participation from our Board and Ambassadors through funding or help to sell the cards.”
Beck donated the cost of printing the cards so 100 percent of the sales have gone to IGNITE DAVIE.
This first iShopDavie card features discounts from Bird & Co., Crystal Cleaners, Davie Tavern, Lazy Elm Winery, Maddie Cakes, Mock-Beroth Tire & Automotive, Mulligans, Sarah Ashley Salon, Southern Ties Boutique, The Factory Coffeehouse, and Village Inn Pizza. A few of the $10 cards for 2020 are still available by contacting the Chamber.
“We thought that the card represented a broad spectrum of businesses from across the county,” said Beck. He hopes to feature other Davie County businesses on future iShopDavie cards.
“I would like to personally thank every single effort that went into our iShopDavie card campaign. This includes our businesses offering benefits to our community as well as each Board member and Ambassador serving this great county. Special thanks to our President Caroline Moser and Kaitlyn Hutchins for their support. Not only did we meet our goal for this year during a difficult time, but we exceeded it!”
