Partnership Supports Workforce Development Across Davie County and the Region
A Major Investment in Workforce Training
DEX Heavy Duty Parts, in partnership with Volvo Group North America, has donated a new Volvo VNL 840 truck to Davidson-Davie Community College’s Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology Program. This modern truck will support hands-on instruction and serve as a critical training tool for students preparing to enter the field.
“This donation goes far beyond a truck; it’s an opportunity. By placing cutting-edge equipment directly into the hands of students at Davidson-Davie Community College, DEX is helping ensure the next generation of technicians enters the workforce skilled, confident, and ready to lead from day one,” said Caroline Moser, president of the Davie County Chamber of Commerce.
“Your commitment to people, education, and industry partnerships is exactly what moves communities forward. When businesses, educators, and manufacturers come together with a shared vision, the impact is lasting, not just for students, but for employers and the entire region.”
“We are grateful for DEX’s leadership, generosity, and belief in hands-on learning. This is what investing in the future truly looks like. Proud to have partners like you in our community,” Moser added.
A Classroom on Wheels: Bridging Today’s Needs with Tomorrow’s Workforce
It’s a bridge between today’s industry needs and tomorrow’s technicians.
The college’s Diesel & Heavy Equipment program is training the next wave of heavy-duty professionals — men and women who will diagnose, repair, troubleshoot, and innovate at a level our industry depends on.
Giving students access to the modern Volvo VNL 840 means they’re getting hands-on experience with the technology, systems, and design features found in the newest trucks hitting America’s roads.
Because when students can train on what fleets are running right now, they enter the workforce ready to go — confident, capable, and ahead of the curve.
“At DEX, we believe in pushing the industry forward by investing not just in parts, but in people. These students are the future shop foremen, lead techs, fleet managers, and problem-solvers our world runs on,” said Brice Holland, of DEX Heavy Duty Parts.

Partnership Strengthens the Workforce Pipeline
“Partnerships like this are what make Davidson-Davie a leader in training and innovation,” said Kerry Smith, division chair for Professional and Technical Careers at Davidson-Davie. “Our students will now have access to cutting-edge equipment that mirrors what they’ll see in the field, ensuring they graduate ready to meet industry demands. We are deeply grateful to DEX Heavy Duty Parts, Volvo Group North America, and John Bartel for their generous support and commitment to the college.”
The donation underscores a shared commitment to prepare the next generation of heavy-duty technicians and strengthen the workforce pipeline for employers across Davie County and the surrounding region.
