camporeeThe Aviation Center of Sugar Valley Airport, is hosting the annual “Spirit of Aviation: The Next Generation” Fly-in, on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Arrivals will begin at 8:00 a.m. and there will be activities from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., so come early and you won’t miss a thing.

Pilots can earn “WINGS” credits
There will be engaging activities to entertain and educate both kids and adults. There will be activities for pilots seeking to earn WINGS credits; Mayday 101 taught by Robert Sutherlin and Air Traffic Control will teach more about what happens in the tower.

Those who are interested in flying, will find plenty to do, but so will those who simply enjoy being around airplanes.  There will be over fifty airplanes on display. Classic War-birds, Bush planes, Biplanes, and small planes such as the Piper Pacer and Stinson, will all be there.

The order of events includes speakers, music, and fun! Morning refreshments including coffee, hot chocolate and other goodies will be available to purchase, by donation, from “3 Sisters Bakery”. Donations will support Civil Air Patrol NC-052, Sugar Valley Squadron.

Lunch will be provided by Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 1083, for just a $5.00 suggested donation.

There will be “pros” available to speak about and demonstrate practical Civil Air Patrol. “search and rescue” first aid, to show kids how to make their own “tornado in a bottle” and teach them about weather. Artists, crafters, a magician and musicians will be on site to share their talents.

Flight Simulators and Free “Young Eagle” Flights
Everyone can enjoy an exciting computer-simulated test flight or even some remote-control flying. Kids 8-17 years old can experience the thrill of flight free, thanks to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s volunteer pilots.  If you plan to participate in a Young Eagle Flight in the afternoon, arrive no later than 11 a.m. to register as the flights are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.  Parental permission is required.

Sugar Valley Airport was established to support general aviation but also to encourage educational, recreational, and creative endeavors in our community. The S.V.A. is home to the Civil Air Patrol cadet program for students 12-18 years old. This program focuses on: community service, leadership training, technical education, and character development.

The S.V.A. facilities are used to support the continuing education of pilots through “ground school”, as well as providing a meeting place for special classes in arts and crafts like silk painting and pottery.

Aviation enthusiasts, those interested in learning more about the opportunities available, and those looking for a fun family weekend event, will all enjoy a visit to the “Spirit of Aviation: the Next Generation” Fly-in. So “fly in or drive in” on October 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and you won’t be disappointed.

Sugar Valley Airport is located at 249 Gilbert Road in Mocksville NC 27028. For more information on the “Fly-in” or about any of the programs mentioned, call 336- 998-3971 or email aviation@sugarvalleyairport.org.  Also, visit the SVA website at www.sugarvalleyairport.org.
