on October 23, 2022

Dangerous weather, environmental hazards, criminal activity, and missing persons – signing up for Davie County’s Hyper-Reach notification system will help ensure that you are aware of situations affecting your neighborhood.

Thousands of public safety agencies across the US use telephone-based mass notification systems to warn citizens about local emergencies, hazards, and other threats. Davie County launched Hyper-Reach in July to help bring this same life-saving capability to this area.

The emergency alert system provides rapid notification of hazardous and urgent situations using a mix of telephone calls, text and email messages, and TTY/TDD service for the hearing impaired. The system sends thousands of these messages to geographically targeted households in seconds. In addition, it can simultaneously deliver them to an even broader audience via social media and send broadcast messages to most current mobile telephones (made since 2011) in an affected area by providing access to FEMA’s Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system.

Our job is to protect the citizens of Davie County as effectively and cost-effectively as possible, so we’re really excited about this new capability, said Rodney Pierce, Davie 911 communications director, when the system was activated.

The Town of Mocksville recently had the opportunity to use the Hyper-Reach system after a water main broke and a temporary notice to boil water was issued. Residents who had signed up for Hyper-Reach received a notification quickly.

“Hyper-Reach is the most reliable method of delivering emergency alerts because the customer provides up-to-date contact information and the method of communication most likely to reach them in case of an emergency,” said Ken Gamble, Mocksville’s town manager, urging people to sign up.

Signing Up is Easy!

Landline phones are automatically enrolled for community alerts, but weather alerts to landline phones and community and weather alerts to VoIP phones, mobile phones, and email addresses are only included when people enroll. Using a phone number without voicemail or an answering machine is discouraged because if you miss the Hyper-Reach calls, you will not receive the message.

Residents and people who work in Davie County are encouraged to enroll (using a county street address) by calling or texting “Alert” to (336) 477-2478 or by going to the website http://hyper-reach.com/ncdaviesignup.html (English) or https://bit.ly/3xs0Ifl (Spanish). You can enroll multiple phone numbers when you call. Please note that emails can only be registered online.

Residents can get emergency alerts via Alexa-enabled smart speakers by saying, “Alexa, enable Hyper-Reach,” and following the Alexa-provided instructions.

Residents can download the Hyper-Reach Anywhere app on a smartphone. It is a free smartphone app that allows residents to manage and monitor alerts they receive for their home and office addresses and other addresses they care about, such as those of elderly relatives or friends.

If you enrolled in Hyper-Reach through Davie County after July 2022, you do not have to take further action. However, please update Hyper-Reach anytime the information you used when enrolling changes.
