A Community Built on Collaboration
The Town of Mocksville is inviting residents and business owners to help shape the future of the community by taking part in an important planning survey now open through the end of November 2025.
The survey will help guide two major initiatives — the update of Mocksville’s Comprehensive Plan and the creation of its first-ever Downtown Master Plan. Both will serve as roadmaps for how the town grows, develops, and preserves its small-town charm in the years to come.

Planning for Progress
Mocksville has partnered with Benchmark Planning, a respected North Carolina firm specializing in community development, downtown revitalization, and long-range planning. Benchmark will work closely with town leaders, the Planning Board, and the Downtown Mocksville Collaborative to ensure the plans reflect community priorities.
“These plans will help us think strategically about where and how the town grows,” said Benchmark Planning President Jason Epley during the November 4th Mocksville Board of Commissioners meeting. “Public input is absolutely essential. The survey is the best way for residents to share their opinions and help us create a vision that truly represents Mocksville.”

Building on Mocksville’s Strengths
The Town of Mocksville has been taking deliberate steps to plan for future growth and revitalization. In partnership with the UNC School of Government’s Development Finance Initiative (DFI), the Town has been exploring redevelopment opportunities for key downtown sites, including the former Energy United property.
Town Manager Lee Rollins said this effort represents Mocksville’s thoughtful approach to community development. “Rather than rushing into growth, we’re focused on intentional planning that will bring long-term benefits to our residents,” he explained. “We want to make sure future development preserves the unique character that defines Mocksville.”
A Vision Shaped by the People
The Comprehensive Plan Update will set a long-term vision for the community by analyzing land use, infrastructure, housing, and economic trends. The Downtown Master Plan will focus on the heart of Mocksville — addressing parking, walkability, public spaces, and opportunities for new investment while maintaining the town’s historic charm.
Mayor Will Marklin emphasized that community participation will make all the difference. “The more responses we get, the better,” he said. “The information we collect will help us make informed decisions about future town initiatives. Without strong participation, we can’t truly reflect what our residents want. Please take the survey and make your voice count.”

Stay Engaged and Informed
In addition to the community-wide survey, Benchmark and the Town will host listening sessions and workshops over the next year to gather more ideas and feedback from residents.
