A new book by local authors Jane Satchell McAllister and Debra Leigh Dotson captures the essence of Mocksville and its people through hundreds of vintage photographs that tell the story of the town’s development and its people through the mid-1900s.  “Images of America ~ Mocksville” was published by Arcadia Publishing on November 15th, 2010.

Photographs Provide Evidence of Agricultural Pursuits and Various Trades
Named the seat of newly created Davie County in 1839, the town of Mocksville, originally known as Mocks Old Field, existed as early as the Revolutionary War.  Photographs provide documentary evidence of various trades as well as agricultural pursuits.

Readers will learn about the livelihoods of Davie County people from a century ago as they discover Davie County natives who became politicians, physicians, policemen, publishers and piano players.  Not all buildings or homes survive a town’s growth, and this book includes evidence of the passing parade of homes that did not survive.

About the Authors
Jane Satchell McAllister serves as librarian in the Martin-Wall Local History Room in the Davie County Public Library. Debra Leigh Dotson volunteers in the history room, organizing and digitizing historical photographs, documents, and artifacts in the collection. Photographs in this book derive from the collections of the library and Davie County residents.

A Great Gift Idea
A wonderful gift idea for anyone from Davie County, this wonderful collection of vintage photographs is available at area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, or through the Davie County Public Library… & just in time for Christmas!
