KidsFest 2021 is Coming With FREE Educational Activities for Young Children!

on April 2, 2021

KidsFest will be held as a drive-thru event on Saturday, April 10, 2021, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Davie County Community Park, 151 Southwood Drive, Mocksville. There will be family resources, activity kits, and lots of fun!

This free community event is sponsored by Smart Start of Davie County in conjunction with Davie County Recreation and Parks and Davie Family YMCA and will occur rain or shine. The goal of KidsFest is to provide a fun day of learning for children and to raise awareness for the services and activities available to families of young children in Davie County. KidsFest is a community collaboration with 16 agencies participating this year!

Registration is required; you can sign-up here or reach out to Smart Start at info@daviesmartstart.org. Since this is a drive-thru event, guests are reminded in advance that they must remain in their car at all times.

“KidsFest is a fun-filled festival that has become a favorite annual tradition for kids of all ages!” said Gena Taylor, executive director of Smart Start of Davie County. “Due to the pandemic, KidsFest was canceled last year. This year Smart Start of Davie County and other child-serving agencies wanted to offer a safe event but a way to share wonderful services by many organizations in our community.  We look forward to seeing families and children at our drive-thru event and hope they enjoy many free activities to take home for their children!”

Each child will receive an activity bag that contains a knobby sensory ball, a book about gardening and healthy eating with seeds that can be planted, sidewalk chalk, and an activity guide with fun family activities that can be done with items from around the house to celebrate the National Week of the Young Child which begins on April 10th. Additional activities can be found here. There will also be an interactive character hunt that children can do from their cars and the Mobile Jukebox will be onsite providing music for the celebration.

Participating vendors will have a giveaway for children and resource material for parents. These include cookbooks, coloring books, and silly putty to name a few. Vendors include Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) – NC Western Piedmont Chapter, Center for Emotional Health, Davie Center for Violence Prevention, Davie County Health and Human Services, Davie County Public Library, Dragonfly House, Girl Scouts, Headstart, Kintegra, and the Mocksville Fire Department

“Kidsfest is part of our community outreach and our work coordinating with other child-serving agencies to offer resources to parents and children. We thank the many community agencies, especially the Davie YMCA and Davie County Recreation and Parks, that partner with us to host this event. We encourage families and child care providers to come learn about all of the resources that are available to them.”

Taylor also hopes that the community will take advantage of the numerous family support and literacy programs that Smart Start also offers to ensure quality early education, health, and family support for all children prenatal to kindergarten in Davie County.

  • Child Care Subsidy – A child care scholarship program for families
  • Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – An early literacy program for children
  • Parents as Teachers – An in-home parent/child education program
  • Nurturing Parenting Program – A ten-week parenting class
  • Early Childhood Resource Center – A free educational kit and resource lending library for parents and childcare providers
  • Reach Out and Read – An early literacy program championed by local pediatricians
  • Strengthening the Foundations of Quality – A technical assistance program for child care providers
  • WAGE$ – An educational incentive program for childcare providers

She believes that these programs are more critical than ever as the pandemic has created new challenges for families with young children. “We hope that families will join us for this free event and enjoy time together as a family while learning about all of the resources that are available to them.”
