Even though Davie County Senior Services’ doors are closed to the public, the service to the seniors of Davie County has not stopped. Since closing the doors on March 14, Senior Services has served approximately 17,000 meals to older adults in our county. Thanks to the receipt of new funding from the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, Senior Services is excited to be able to expand this program even more.
Beginning June 1 st Senior Services will have a drive through meal pick up service every Monday from 2:00 – 3:30pm. During that time anyone who is 60 or older and lives in Davie County may pick up 5 days of frozen meals to help out during this time. Each meal meets 1/3 RDA guidelines. To be eligible to
participate, you must reserve your meals no later than Thursday at 1:00pm the previous week.
Senior Services must also have a completed up-to-date enrollment form for meals services on file. This is a simple two page form. Forms can be completed during time of meal pick up. Current congregate meal clients should already have a completed form on file. Meals will only be available to those who reserved for that week.
Participants in the drive through service will remain in their cars and come through the pick-up line. Staff from Senior Services will put the meals in the car. Activity packets and a Stay At Home Bingo game card will be handed out as well.
For those older adults who are homebound, Senior Services continues to offer the Meals on Wheels program. During this time, instead of the typical daily delivery of hot meals, participants receive 5 days of frozen meals once per week. The food is the same food that is handed out during the drive-through
program. Please contact Senior Services for more information on the Meals on Wheels program and eligibility guidelines.
