Davie County Veterans Services has opened a new Veterans Computer Lab using funds from a recently awarded grant. The lab gives local veterans free access to computers and basic software.
Veterans can use the lab for personal tasks, schoolwork, and benefits-related needs. The Veterans Computer Lab is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
How the Lab Works
To make sure everyone has a fair chance to use the computers, each veteran may use a computer for up to two (2) hours per day. The lab is self-service, and all users must sign in and complete a user acknowledgement form when they arrive. By signing in, veterans agree that staff are not available to help with computer use or online tasks.
The computers can be used for internet browsing and common programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. There is no cost to use the lab.
Free Printing Available
Printing services are also available at no cost and should be used responsibly and in moderation to help prevent future limitations or fees if overuse is identified. Staff can only help with printer problems, such as paper jams or loading paper.
Veterans Services by Appointment Only
Veterans Service Officer (VSO) services are still available by appointment only. The VSO is not available for walk-in help during computer lab hours. Veterans who need help with computers should contact the Davie County Public Library, which offers Tech Assistance services.
Supporting Local Veterans
“This new Veterans Computer Lab reflects our continued commitment to supporting the needs of Davie County’s veterans,” said Meagan Tomlin, Veterans Services Officer. “Thanks to this grant, we are able to provide a valuable resource that helps veterans stay connected and supported.”
