Ahoy, mateys! Pirates are plotting their return to Downtown Mocksville, and families are invited to join the adventure.
The Downtown Mocksville Pirate Takeover sails into town Saturday, September 19, from 1–4 p.m., rain or shine. This free, all-ages event will transform downtown into an afternoon of treasure hunting, treats, photo opportunities and swashbuckling fun.
Pirates, mermaids and sea creatures of all kinds are encouraged to dress the part, gather their crews and prepare to shop, dine, play and explore their way through Downtown Mocksville.
Follow the Map to a Special Treasure
Every good pirate adventure begins with a treasure map!
Pick up a map at a participating downtown business and follow the symbols from stop to stop. Along the way, collect stamps while discovering specials, treats, and giveaways from participating merchants.
Complete the treasure map to claim a special treasure. It’s a fun way for families to explore downtown while also discovering the locally owned shops, restaurants and businesses that make Downtown Mocksville special.
Search for Hidden Loot
Keep your eyes open, mateys—there may be treasure hiding where you least expect it.
The afternoon will include a treasure hunt with clues and hidden loot, adding another layer of adventure for young pirates and their families. Whether you’re carefully following the clues or simply exploring downtown to see what you can discover, there will be plenty to keep the entire crew entertained.
Strike Your Best Pirate Pose
No pirate adventure is complete without proof that you survived the voyage!
Families can stop at pirate-themed photo opportunities throughout the event to capture their crew in their finest pirate, mermaid, or sea-creature attire. Add in games and other swashbuckling activities, and there will be plenty of opportunities for kids—and kids at heart—to join the fun.
Shop, Dine, Play & Explore Downtown
The Pirate Takeover isn’t just about finding treasure. It’s also an invitation to spend an afternoon enjoying Downtown Mocksville.
Grab lunch or a treat, browse the shops, visit participating businesses, and see what surprises await along the treasure trail. With activities designed for all ages, families can make an afternoon of exploring downtown together.
And best of all, the Pirate Takeover is free.
A Downtown Mocksville Tradition
What began as a fun way to bring families and visitors downtown has grown into a much-anticipated community tradition hosted by the Downtown Mocksville Collaborative (DMC).
The event gives longtime residents and first-time visitors alike a playful reason to explore downtown businesses, experience the community and make memories together.
So dust off the tricorn hat, grab the eye patch, polish the mermaid scales and round up your crew.
