Racing Into the Holidays: Mocksville Bed Races Bring Community Fun to Main Street

on November 26, 2025

’Twas the night before Bed Races, when down Main Street they sped,
Teams pushing and grinning, each racing a bed.
The wheels, they were whirling, the crowd roared with delight,
As Mocksville’s best dreamers took flight in the night.

From polished chrome machines to pirates set loose,
From flaming buccaneers to a missionary caboose,
They dashed down the lanes with precision and flair,
With spirit so strong you could feel it mid-air.

There was Green Meadows Mission 1, bold and sincere,
Richardson’s Rod & Custom shifting into top gear,
The Phlyin Phoenix soared fast with students on board,
While the Blazin Buccaneers plundered points and scored.
Caring Transitions raced with hearts large and kind,
And SBA Home North Carolina left challengers behind.

With laughter and cheering, and bedding askew,
Mocksville’s holiday kickoff brought joy rushing through.
And as winners were crowned and the races drew tight,
We all heard the town whisper, “What a magical night!”

The holiday season officially rolled into Davie County as downtown Mocksville hosted its 14th annual “Twas the Night Before” Bed Race on November 21st. With 18 teams sprinting down Main Street and crowds cheering from the sidewalks, the beloved event once again served as a lively and spirited kickoff to the Christmas season.

A Festive Evening of Competition and Community

Families and spectators filled the downtown area well before race time, eager to grab a front-row view of the action. The atmosphere buzzed with holiday excitement as race announcer Rick Donathan led the crowd through Christmas trivia and festive tune challenges. DJ Barry Rentz with the Mobile Jukebox kept the energy high, turning the street into a playful celebration between heats.

“The bed race is one of those traditions that reminds us why community matters,” said Jeannette Pitts, Mocksville’s Director of Marketing and Community Development. “It’s a night where creativity meets teamwork, and everyone gets to enjoy something uniquely ours. We were thrilled to welcome new teams this year and cheer on our returning racers.”

The success of the event is rooted in collaboration, and organizers expressed appreciation for the many hands that make the bed race possible each year.

“Events like this rely on business support, volunteers, and countless behind-the-scenes contributors,” Pitts said. “From coordination to setup to the excitement of race night, it truly takes a team effort.”
